I'd like to see some early jets from the 40's and 50's.
ie Gloster Meteor, F-86 Saber, F-84 Thunderjet, MiG15, CF-100 Canuck, CF-105 Arrow, and the Avro Vulcan are some early jets I would like to see.
The thing is that CFS3 is gmax compatible so all thoes wonderful gmax aircraft for FS2002 theoretically could be converted into CFS3 format by their designers.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. I would love to see a P-39 modeled for CFS3.  I think the thrity-nine was a great fighter.  Some of the big bombers like the B-17, B-24, B-29, and the Lancaster would be cool. Hey, you know what else would be nice? A P-40!  I like that bird, but not as much as the like the thrity-nine.

For Sock:

Hey Sock, I wanted to say that someone did make a P-40.  It is avaible at Sim-Outhouse.  I have downloaded it.  It is not bad.

For Smoke2much:

What you want would be impossible.  First of all, you would need the original .gamx file so you could change it into a .M3D format instead of a .MDL.  If you got the original file, you would need to make some changes.  You would also have to make .DDS files for the textures and write a .MOS file.  The program couldn't get the original file by itseft and I would like to see one that could make a .MOS file without user imput.  (Maybe in the year 2020 they will have something.)

Most definitely a Lanc.  The Hampden sounds good.  We need a lot more RAF aircraft for sure!  The idea of a dam busting mission is great!  Or night raids over Berlin.  The mind boggles.

I'm glad I have support for the Hampden. The fact is that if we can have Halifaxes, Stirlings, Lancasters, wellingtons and whitleys then we can have a bomber command campaign!!! Grin

I look forward to it...

Plus the Hampden can be a Torpedo bomber... Replace the B25!

How about a Dakota, then get those infantry models developed too that I've seen posted on various sites, then get an Airborne drop mission into the game. Maybe pre D-Day drops or Arnhem, then you could have a choice of bridges etc. You could escort the transports or fly one.

Whaddya reckon?

I'll have to check out that P-40, thanks for the tip.  The 39 and P-40 got me thinking about the lend-lease act, and then basicly about Russian birds.  The Yak-9 would be a nice airplane to see for CFS3 or a MIG-1 or even a Polikarpov I-16.  Those things had a nice roll rate.  And since the game has early jets, like the P-80 and the Me-262, why not a MIG-15 or 17.  Hell, while I'm at it why not start the Korean War!  We could have F-84 Sabres tangle with MIG-15s!  While we are on the Korean War, why not model the airplane designed to tangle with MIGs, the F-104!  America's first Mach 2 fighter, the so-called missle with a man in it.  I think I may have gone a little over board with my ideas... a P-40N warhawk, early war US colour scheme (1941)
which would have U.S. ARMY on the wing underside.

(before you say it, I am well aware that there are P-40's already, but the nose disappears when you zoom in on it.) so I'd thought a early war USAAC P-40N should be done, my personal favourite. Grin

I would like to see some transports (DC3, that tri-engine German one, for example), just to use for target practice.  Maybe throw in seaplanes in a similar vein.

A U.S. heavy bomber (B-17 or -24) would be great to try out.  The Me109K and the Fw109D9 I think are important enough to add.

I also really like the idea of the stuff the Germans were working on at the end of the war but never finished, and I'm glad MS already included a few.  The Germans had a 2-engine strategic bomber they developed but gave up on.

Completely fictional planes would be great.  How about something like a B-25 or -26 with jet engines?

Maybe even thow in some Korean War era planes (F-86s, Mig-15s).

Why not some X planes tlike the Bell X1. It would be neat to break the sound barrier without having your wing fall off.  You could drop from a B29 or try it from the ground. (They did that once and were able to reach mach 1). Why not a V1 or V2 to shoot down.  There were V1s in CFS1 right? I'd like to try and ram a V2 headed for London or something along that line.

For Zulu's idea of all those German aircraft that never were to be, if you don't all ready know about it, check out http://www.luft46.com. ; Great artwork and even specs for some of them.  If you look for it, there's a plane called the Hs P.75, that would be nice.  But I would imagine that most designers know about that site.

There was a Hs P.75 in Crimson Skies, I think they called it a bloodhawk...They also used another late war German design.  The Blohm & Voss BV P.170, a fighter-bomber design, the one that had the three engines and the cockpit and horizontal stapilizers in the rear.  Interesting plane, you can read about it at, http://www.luft46.com/bv/bvp170.html.

Darcy, if you download the mission builder from the MS site you can build missions with V1's and then chase them and shoot them down. Only problem is they don't fly like the real ones, they are too slow.

Having said that, there is a full set of missions with revamped V1's posted on the CFS3 section of this site. So you could always download that.

What is really needed is a top-rate German fighter, something that can handle the Spitfire of P-55.  Those planes just totally out-class that Bf-109 and Fw-190.  I think a Ta-152 would be good.

I voted for the B-17 first but the Ju-87 would be second. However since this is like asking what one would do if winning the lotto, here is my bigger wish list.  UK, US and even the Graf Zeppelin aircraft carriers with all the right planes to operate off them. Plus, better and more targets at sea. How about the Tirpitz in Norway, The Scharnhorst in Brest, KGV, Warspite, Ark Royal etc in Scapa. Thanks to Ground Crew for the Koln and T-boats. Can't wait for more ships to target. Thankfully the A-26 has brought a 2-torpedo load-out for the allies. Now, we need ship targets that will require 2 hits to go down. We all know our wingmen never can figure out we want them to hit the cruiser.

i'm a 3d modeller and would like to make a few extra planes for CFS3, but have no idea how to export models from 3ds max 4 to CFS3...

is there a SDK or similar i need to do it? is there anywhere on the web that will give me all the info i need at one site?

also, what is the typical number of polygons allowed for a CFS3 aircraft?

(sorry if this has all been answered elsewhere in this forum)

Hey there clivewil, glad to hear that you're working on some addons!  Just out of curiosity, what are you working on? Wink

Anyway, the SDK is available at http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/CFSInsider/default.htm
I believe it comes with gmax (with cfs3 gamepack) in order to export.  Not sure if you can take a 3dsmax file and put it in gmax though... ???

As for the rest, I'd say check www.simouthouse.com but some #$(@ hackers brought it down.  Should be up sometime within the week though.  The outhouse is IMO the best cfs3 forum on the net.
Anyway good luck, and keep us posted!

As amg1835 suggests get the aircraft & vehicle SDK at http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/CFSInsider/default.htm?nc=1

Get Gmax at http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/

And yes, you can export 3dsmax4.2 scenes in 3ds format
to Gmax as it comes with native 3ds, PRJ and DXF import

The SDK suggests 7000 poligons for the LOD_100 model, but you can go way above that.
The average faces count on any addond I have used so far is around 24000 faces in the master model and they all work fine without noticeable fps drops.
CFS3 is renderer´s paradise Grin

thanks for the replies, i'm downloading the sdk as i type. i'll then grab gmax, but first i want to make sure i can't export it straight from max4 - gmax looks very cut-down and i work in max4 day in day out so there's no learning curve... Wink

i'd like to get together the aircraft from the BoB era, so i can pot a few heinkels and dorniers, and throw a stuka party or two

my workload's pretty heavy at the moment, but hopefully i can make a few of these before CFS4 is out...

Yup, no NURBS and the like in Gmax and currently no way to import straight away from Max to CFS3.
however, porting over to Gmax works ok except names cannot be longer than 8 characters due to 3ds format limitations, materials need redo in the editor, and smoothing groups will be reset to whatever angle you define in the import window. Texture mappings and animations remain intact though.

but with a full buff, i think i can finally destroy the damn V1 sites!

The V-1 sites are virtually impossible to hit! But I think it will spoil the game if we stard putting modern jets in it  Undecided jets really spoiled CFS2 multiplayer (I can't stand restricted because I can't fly the P-39 and there is always an idiot in an F-22 in my multiplayer games)

That tells me what?
Not shure why you´re adressing this to me.
You can´t cheat, that´s right, but you can fly aircraft with inaccurate flightmodels, as long as everbody has the same installed.

i'm a 3d modeller and would like to make a few extra planes for CFS3, but have no idea how to export models from 3ds max 4 to CFS3...

is there a SDK or similar i need to do it? is there anywhere on the web that will give me all the info i need at one site?

also, what is the typical number of polygons allowed for a CFS3 aircraft?

(sorry if this has all been answered elsewhere in this forum)

lots of good stuff at www.avhistory.org too

Later!

hi again people

i've grabbed gmax and resigned myself to the fact that i have to do at least some of my work in it instead of all in max4 (having bought and paid for my rolls-royce, i resent having to drive the volkswagen) but am having trouble locating the "gamepak" for cfs 3 - varying info from the 'net includes:
1.) it's included with gmax (not in mine, its not)
2.) it's on the cfs3 cd's (not on mine, its not)
3.) you use the fs2002 gamepak (recipe for disaster, or at least a stonking good headache?)

any of you guys know for sure which is the real deal?

thanks for any help you can give and please bear with me, i'm a 3d modeller by occupation but this is the first time i've tried developing a model for a flight-sim

AirBrat: no Dr1. or camel (yet) but i have an eindekker and a fokker d-vii around somewhere that i could de-mothball at a later date (but i want to do the BoB aircraft first)

as far as fast jets in cfs3 is concerned, i reckon being shot down in multiplayer by some clown in an f-18 would cheese me off considerably, but i reckon i could out-turn almost any missile in a spit ix...

The CFS3 gamepack is a separate download available at
http://microsoftgamesinsider.com/CFSInsider/default.htm?nc=1
and is listening to the name "aircraft and Vehicle SDK" Wink
