Does it exist in FS2002?  And does anyone know any other "hidden" areas?

I looked for it, but everything looks pretty much the same in Maryland.  I also checked the internet, but although there are several websites dedicated to it, none shows an overhead map of the area.  The closest I got was "70 miles outside of Washington" which could mean anything.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.  I am putting together a set of flights for the Marine 1 that I made from a V22, which I plan to post soon.

Maybe the government really doesn't want people to know where it is Wink

Conspiracies abound, eh?

I've looked around on the internet since the posting, and nothing I have found remotely comes close to my queries, but I have found mass amounts of info on the buildings and other such stuff.

If anyone knows of any good overhead maps of the area, I will try my best to make a patch using GMax.

Just a suggestion.  Look at Maryland aviation maps.  The airspace is restricted.  Shouldn't be difficult to find there.

Not difficult--damn near impossible!

Looked on yahoo, ask.com and google and not one reference gave me an aerial map of the location around where I am looking for.

Its almost like they've been intentionally left out . . . ??? Roll Eyes

I've found it. It's in the eastern hardwood forest of Catoctin Mountain Park located in Thurmont, MD.

Although it wasn't marked on the map, I worked it out from a description of a visitor there who referred to the entrance in relation to Poplar and Chestnut. I've marked the location with a red cross inside a circle.

Shouldn't be hard to find in FS2002 with the rest of the area marked.

Camp David, and other sites are intentionally omitted, or simply hinted to, their locations, and other specific information from many public documents, and electroninc media. These are deemed by the U.S. Government as "Secure", or "Sensitive" areas, for reasons of National Security.

During this particular time in our world, and being a "cautious" American, I think that was a good move, on their part.

Okay, good point.  But national security issues asside--damn the man!

Why should the American people be left out of the loop, when some of our 'enemies' have been to the locations we speak of?

I'm sure Yassar Arafat (?) knows the location of Camp David.  After all, he's been there, as have so many of the other leaders and officials of different countries over the years.  Did Husein ever attend?

Thinking of all the people that have been to the place in the last thirty years, it is INCREDIBLE that there is no location map that pinpoints the retreat's actual location.

And you have a good point, too.
It probably wasn't included in FS2K2, just like the statue over Rio wasn't included, along with allot of other public landmarks.
Most likely has nothing to do, at all with National Security.

But, it was said that the 9-11 terrorists possibly could have use Flight Simulator in their planning.
(You can see where I'm going with this).

So I can understand Microsoft not depicting some areas
of the country, for whatever reasons.

I chalk it up to the nature of the world we live in.

Obviously, I had no wish to threaten anyone's security by posting the above.

However, the information came from websites that the US government contributed photographs to, included in the articles with the directions. If they were seriously trying to keep the location a secret, I doubt that they'd have done that. They clearly know what's up there.

Aside of which, Camp David is smack bang in the middle of a public National Park with public campsites around the perimeter. Not exactly the most secretive location in the World.

It took me about 10 minutes to find it motivated by purely passing interest. Someone with serious motivations would have found it in 5. I'm sure if there was real concern about it's location being kept secret, it wouldn't have been found at all.

I don't think the location of Camp David being hidden has nothing to do with national security. After all everyone knows where Area 51, the US airforce's top secret test platform is.

I only pretend to know what I'm talking about. Heck, that's what lawyers, car mechanics, and IT professionals do everyday. No, Tip. Don't take it that way. You didn't do anything wrong. That information always has been available to anyone. It's Public Domain. Anyone with a computer can find anything, if they drill down far enough.

Actually, I shouldn't have posted my opinion on that subject, here. This isn't the place, and I do apologize to you all.

If what you say is correct, I have no problem personally with the entire thread being removed. However, doing so is not going to plug the biggest gap:

It makes a bit of a mockery of "classified" if the U.S. government are contributing photographs to a site that contains text clearly defining the position.

I found that site (and given what you've said, I won't quote the URL) by submitting a search engine request with the keywords "Camp David".A far more likely route to be taken by someone wishing to discover it's location wouldn't you agree? I'm sure you can find it yourself using the same method as easily as I did. It would seem to me that the site in question poses a far greater risk to National security than my post.

You can see my point can't you. Thousands of people every year camp right next door to the front gate and perimeter fence. It's not exactly information available only to people with sufficient security clearance.

I said it before and I meant it. If this post can really be considered a threat to security, then it ought to be removed. But so should all the other sites that provide exactly the same information freely available across the internet, with more pertinant search keys attached.

Particularly the one that the U.S. government itself contributed to.
