A lot of people have bad add-on scenery files installed and don’t know it. These files can interfere with FS2002 while it is indexing file changes. If you have any of the following problems then you may have such bad files:
- Airports or runways missing from the FS2002 GoTo Airport list after installing AFCAD airports or other scenery.
- FS2002 crashes or hangs up while starting up.
- Missing runways or NAVAIDs in FSNavigator or other tools that use facility files.
- FS2002 reporting it has run out of memory.
These bad files (AFD type bgl files) can be detected with a simple utility called ScanBGLs, which can be found in this site's library in the General FS2002 Utilities section. This utility will scan all your stock and add-on scenery and facility files for corruption and formatting errors that can cause these problems.
This is especially beneficial to people who are unable to install AFCAD airports because these bad scenery files cause FS2002 to ‘lose’ airports after indexing AFCAD changes.
If you have a lot of add-on scenery, and especially AFD files that add new VORs or NDBs, then there is a good chance you have such bad files so you should run this scanner.

I Like Flight Simulation!
I tried this and cleaned up the reported problems. It corrected the ATC problems I reported here

.
If your virus scanner checks every file as it is opened you should turn it OFF. It reads 10,000+ files in under a minute with AV off, but about 10-15 minutes with AV on.
