I'm a novice regarding PC's and games. And after endless phonecalls to so called "support" services, I have finally realised that I should probably ask someone who actually knows something.
I recently purchased CFS 2 as I absolutely loved CFS 1.
Installation went fine, but when I started the game it played the intro and after that it threw me back out to the desktop.
I have Windows XP and a 128mb SDR Geforce 4 Graphics card.
Can somebody help me, please???

Hmm... Tricky one. Your system is one that eats CFS2 for breakfast and I can see nothing that could cause it to go wrong. How ever have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? If not then it might be an XP problem. I would reckommend a reinstall before we go any further.

Hi Woodlouse.

Uninstall and then reinstall was one of the first things I did when it didn't work, but the same thing happened.

I have after one weeks frustration returned the game and are seriously considering buying CFS3. But knowing my luck, that probably wont work either.

Thank you very much for answering though.

Can you by the way advise me on a good add on for my CFS (1)? I have downloaded Pyros Vampire which I love to fly. (I have tried several other types, but it's as though the planes are balancing on an egg. Very wobbly.

Kind regards

Woody

I would reckommend buying CFS3. You have a system that would appreaciate it.

I havn't played CFS1 for years and I never had a downloads for it. However I do know of some Korean Campaigns for it of your interested.

LOL Woody. (This is confusing, I meant Woodlouse) Do I have to do everything?  Tongue
Actually I was was involved with these campaigns so do know a little about them. I suggest you start with the Banshee Mission Pack here. http://www.simviation.com/cfs1missions4.htm
If you like it there's an update + whole series of Korean campaigns posted on the following pages which are best installed in the order they were posted.

One comment on the original topic. CFS3 is far more complex than CFS1 or CFS2. It also caused many installation problems. I never did get it to run properly on my machine despite all my experience. If you had problems with CFS2 on your system I doubt if CFS3 will be any better. I suspect the CFS2 problem is with your machine rather than the sim. It's most likely a setting, driver or something simple.

Thanks guys.

I've downloaded the banshee file and it's working fine.
All I have to do now is to pour myself a pint of bitter, light a cigar and away we go.

Regarding CFS3, to buy it or not? I don't really know what to do, but to be quite honest with you, I have games on my PC that are really putting it to the test. (Games that I uninstalled just to get CFS2 going. And failed.)

But you're probably right. It's very likely it won't work.

Would any of you know of a similar game that might do the business?

Kind regards

Woody

Hi Woody. Sorry about the earlier confusion. I kept thinking you were Woodlouse (we call him Woody for short). Put it down to my age. Wink

If you hadn't already tried it I would recommend CFS2. It should run fine on most systems & I never had a problem with it. Your system is far more powerful than mine & I'm sure your problem is due to something very simple, maybe even your Desktop color resolution. Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of WinXP or could be more help. As I mentioned previously, CFS3 will not run on my system. It might be fine for you.

Hi Hagar/Woodlouse

CFS2 is the game I've already tried (for a week) but it just would not work. A lot of people reckons it might have been the game itself. Even Microsoft asked me to send it back to them and they would have reimbursed me. As it is I got the money back from the store I bought it from.

But surely there is the possibilty that there might have been something wrong with the game???
Like I said earlier I have got very advanced games that are working just fine.

I think I will give CFS3 a shot over the weekend.

Kind regards

Stefan

PS: Thanks for the Missions by the way.

I am extreemly glad to hear it.

I think theres an F9F out there somewhere but i'm nit sure. The biggest selection of CFS3 aircraft I know of is at www.sim-outhouse.com so if you mosey over there  then you can see what they've got.

If theres non to your liking be patient. The aircraft will come slowly at first then you will be spoilt for choice.

Cheers Woodlouse.

Now for another query. (Great site this.)
The graphics does tend to freeze up now and again. Not very often, but it happens.

Any ideas what it might be?  ???I have increased the virtual memory.

How much RAM do you have? This is the usual cause of a lock up... With most people they have to reboot every hour or so to keep a good fps. Other than that i'm not really sure.

Hi Woody

I have 256 Mb. And I remember reading somewhere that it will work better with 512 Mb. Is that true?

Anywho, it's not too bad. I think I can live with it.

Thanks for your help though.

Well I can tell you that 512mb is the amount anyone would want. I have found that closing down all programs running in the background also helps with running.

I have 256mb and I get by alright. Its when the clouds go that you want to reboot.

Cheers.

Hi Woodlouse Grin

I'm doing the same thing and there is a difference.
I have also turned off the video graphics in between missions. And that helped a lot. The only bad thing is that I can't view the planes I choose to fly. Embarrassed

But if it makes the game run better then I think I'll live with it.

I spoke to Microsoft yesterday regarding the graphics
and they told me that the game will always be a bit jerky due to the immense graphics involved. Shocked

Kind regards

Hi

I am new at this also. My game was going back to the desktop. Make sure that your resolution is set at 1024. After changing my CFS2 works great.  Also make sure  everything that is running is shutdown.  Somethime things running in the background will cause this. Hope this works.
