Real Kai Tak - Latest (Read 439 times)

For all you Kai Tak fans, Trev Slack (of Project Airbus fame) has just very kindly filled me in on the latest situation there. It's not good.
The main terminal is still there - it's used as the largest indoor go-kart mall in the world with arcades, pool/snooker, bowling, shops, car dealing. The tower is still there and so is the aviation club, but with only helicopters.
The parking spaces and ramp outside where the jetways used to be is still intact right now but the rest has been dug up. The taxiway lines/ parking guidance system etc are all still there but the HAECO hangars are gone though (truly the end of an era).
Local businesses have been affected as they used to make money off airport staff that visited close by.
The good news is that the new airport is great from a spotter's point of view as there are now a lot more movements with more airlines and all.
But somehow I personally don't think it's the same.

Roger this is terrible! Kai Tak was unique and irreplacable.
'Fraid I couldn't find any photos of it either, just me in short trousers in various parts of Hong Kong.
Sorry

Roger, these shots were taken some ** years ago, whilst I was only about half my current height, and about a third my current weight, and hadn't discovered alcohol. You know, the dark ages of life!

Ps. I would just like to say that I do NOT have knobbly knees!

To be honest, in those short trousers, it wasn't your knees we were worried about......
