Hey Folks

With all the negative hubub about FSPLANET (and all of it deserved in my opinion)  I wanted to check what everyone thinks of avsim.

Basically, they seem to have a really nice bush flying community at Bush Flying Unlimited where you pick up bush missions off of their forum and then submit your pirep as a reply with screen shots.

THAT said, has anyone had any BAD scenarios with avsim, because I do like to make sure that I allign myself with reputable members of the community

Oh, and if simvation HAD a bush club like avsim, I'd never wander from the great people here.

Looking forward to your responses

In my opinion, AVSIM is as great of a site as Simviation!  If I had to pick one that is better than the other, I couldn't.  Because they are both great for the flight simming community in their own special way.   Avsim, like simviation, is above board about everything they do.  Both seem to be very good about crediting the work to the proper people.  Unfortunatly, there are those that seem to get by, but only for a short time before they get called on it.  Both sites are very good for news, downloads, links, etc, etc, etc....  It is my opinion, but I know that you cannot go wrong with either.

One thing I have noticed to be very different, is the forum at Simviation seems more friendly than at Avsim.  Maybe it is just appereance, but that seems to be the case for me......(not trying to kiss up, just stating what seems true to me.)

yah, Simviation and Avsim are IMO the best flightsim sites, I only go to Flightsim as a last resort

Usually, If i can't find something on Simviation, I'll check Avsim, and then flightsim

What is that about? 'Best followed by...'

For me... It goes...

1. Simviation
2. Avsim
3. As a last resort FlightSim

I gotta agree. I've been collecting my downloads since FS98, and about 90+% are from here at SimV.
(Now approching 2GB of addons).

I don't like the idea of having to register just to get a download, so that's why I stay here. But, if I had to rank them, I'd say SimV, SurClaro.com, then Avsim.

(Guess which of the 3 don't require registration to download.....)

I would suppose it wouldn't be hard to get some of these guys together and do some bush flying. Or scenic tours, or even carrier operations, for that matter.

***IF YOU POST IT, THEY WILL COME***

The Bush flying at avsim is organised by Don Moser.

Avsim really only host his site so it may be worth having a word with him if you have an interest in this. I know him and he's a good guy and I'm sure he'd help organise something for you.

I find that AVSIM is ok but I don't like the way their site is set up. Much too complicated. I like that SimV has updates and sections on the front page in plain view unlike avsim which has a small file library link at the top of their home page.

SurClaro.com (www.surclaro.com) is yet another addon FS resourse site, ran by Gonzalo Besoain.
I don't know him personally, but we've passed some e-mails. Seems like a good guy.
Nice site. Lots of downloads, and resourses. Links to other resources, too. I can't say allot about the forum, (doesn't hold a candle to this one), but a nice site never the less.

As I understand it AVSIM were involved with one or two issues sometime ago along with Flightsim... So I tend not to go there, and their forums aren't too helpful (I've never had a reply to a post).
Personally SimV is the only place for me. It's my electronic home, and my wife frequently claims she is a Simviation widow Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for the heads up.  I have been there a few times for downloads but I found the interface a little awkward (I don't like frames and the forums didn't show all the posts) but the content is first rate.

Same here..I posted one topic...I got one reply...from Felix of all people! Grin

Andrew, he may be referring to the time when there was this payware uproar trying to stop freeware...don't whether Avsim was for or against this notion, but they were pretty big players in it...I believe Pete kept his head.  That uproar is the reason why M$ no longer put real liveries in there sims...they'd have to apy to do so...technically, all freeware repainters/developers should get permission from an airline before posting a plane with there livery on it, but I've never bothered and never been contacted by an airline about it... Oh don't get me wrong, I am not abandoning simviation for my forum needs.  I just like the whole idea of the take one leave one bush mission forum that they have.  I like the attitude and people here as far as a general FS forum goes.  I'd love to see some of you crazier folks (read: ozzy) join me over on the avsim bush missions.

Can't disagree with anyone on this one, for me it's

1.    Simviation,
2.    Avsim,

and in total desperation to find something no-one else has got I might even try to raise FlightSim.

I'm in New Zealand, so for local scenery and paintjobs (Air New Zealand and Qantas etc) I have two more :

Aussim.Com and ARNZ.cjb.net.

These two are worth a look if you haven't already
got them listed and you are feeling like a surf-around.
