it all depends on the type of repaint (photo realistic, etc.) but generally 1 and/or 2

Sometimes all three.
#1, I paint over an original so I automatically use parts of it.
#2, I do a lot of this
#3, I usually use other aircraft textures plus real photos to get the coloring right

I usually paint the aircraft I'm repainting blank (exept for details) and then paint on that. I guess that's a mixture of #'s 1 and 2.

Are there any specail files or specific sizes that have to meet a criteria.

I try to use the "other" method. Due to a disability my mouse and don't always talk the same language, so I request "Others" to repaint or paint for me.
