No DME at KMIA - very wierd (Read 1229 times)

Can someone try to duplicate this - it might be a bug in FS?

The ILS for runway 9R at KMIA (Miami International) seems to have no DME.  I first blamed the aircraft, then the panel but I've tried several other scenarios with the same result.

The ILS freq is 110.9.  I can hear it beeping and see the glideslope indicators but no DME readout.  I'm sure I had the DME radio matched to the NAV radio because I have tried several scenarios - switching to the VOR freq, Rwy 27's ILS, different aircraft.  Everything works except the DME for Rwy 9R.

Is this a real life scenario. a bug in FS or just a bug on my computer?

Some VORs (of which ILS is a part) aren't equipped with DME equipment.

I'd consider that this is very unlikely in the case of Miami International, but you'd have to check it on charts to be sure. The reference code for the ILS of that runway is IBUL if you can track a chart down to check.

Just to confirm, there's no DME when I fly it either. Either it doesn't haven't one or Microsoft forgot to include it.

Thanks Tipster.  Glad to know it's not a bug in my system alone.

I just opened up KMIA with Afcad and exported it to a text file. I took a look at it and it looks like you change a couple values to fix it. Somebody will have to check it out.

I can't right now cause i'm in the middle of a flight and i've got 6 hours left to brisbane

Thanks Andrew.

I don't understand a bit of what you said but I'm from S. Fla. and I like to fly a lot of local airports.  If I could fix this bug it would be really helpful.

You can fix it with ttools  (via AFCAD possibly) which is what I think Andrew is referring to.

I'm no expert on that but there are folks out there who know how to do it,, one of which looks like Andrew Cheesy

Thanks Tipster,  I vaguely understand you.

I looked into TTools once (Project AI - right?) but it looked like all it would do was change "Orbit Airlines" to "American Airlines" - more trouble than it was worth.

I'm no expert, I just had an idea Wink

TTools doesn't edit airport data, Afcad does. You can add and edit navaids at an airport with Afcad.

WebPA,

ProjectAI replaces the default airlines with real airlines to the flightsim world. I've got my FS world full of real airlines flying around, and I don't have any of the default orbit and landmark airlines anymore.

Andrew and Tipster,

I appreciate your help.  It sounds like the cure is worse than the disease.  There is a bug in the prog affecting the ILS at Rwy 9R at KMIA and that's that.  I would report it to MS but I doubt it would do any good, esp since a new version is in the works.

(PS- I DID send emails to MS and several airlines about my "why no real life liveries" question but no substantive responses as yet.)

Do you really want MS to do real airlines??
Do you think MS would do it right? PAI is constantly working on AI traffic, whereas MS would work on it, say it's done and never do anything to it again.

PAI is constantly fixing, improving, and adding to their work 8)

Andrew,

You and Tipster have answered my question but I think we're geting off the point.

There is at least one bug in FS2K2.  (God and Bill Gates only know how many others.)

My original question was about an ILS problem at KMIIA.  I am willing to live with the bug as long as I know it is a bug.

I don't want to rant, but personally I couldn't care less whether ATC says American Airlines or Orbit Airlines.

Some people do, and I can appreciate that and more power to them.

But I see a lot of posts complaining about PAI.  Why should I add something else to my own FS that might gum it up?

Thank you for your assistace. You are obviously more knowledgeable in FS2K2 than I am.  If your resources can remedy this bug I would greatly appreciate it.

I fiddled around a bit with it, but I can't do much because i'm still in the middle of a flight. I'll check it out as soon as I can
