I would appreciate any help to fix this problem I have.

I just bought a HP with Atlon 2400Xp, 512Ram, Gforce 4 MX420. I installed FS2k2, The game runs fine and smooth; however, I don't get the reflexion feature of ms2k2. I have checked the check box in the simulator to enable the feature, but nothing happens. I downloaded the last graphic drivers fron nVidia site, installed it on my computer; yet, nothing happens eaither.

can somebody give me some ideas or solutions to fix this problem in order for me to take full advantage of the simulator and my computer.

Prior this computer I had a anotherone with Gforce 2 that was able to handle this feature without any problem.

Hey soamsky!

simple problem, simple solution!
go to settings--->display---> choose the aircraft tab--->check the reflections box

and that's it!

Hi Liran-Bar

Thank you for your reply. "simple problem, simple solution!
go to settings--->display---> choose the aircraft tab--->check the reflections box ".

The problem, Liran, is that I already checked that box and nothing happens.

The solution lies in the fact that FS2002 doesn't communicate properly with GF4 MX cards.

For your particular card, you need to add the following entry to to the "GeForce 2" (I know - but 2 is correct) section of your display.cfg file:

[000010DE:00000172]
DriverValidate2=1

That will enable full reflections and animated water.

You have to do some tweaking in order to get chrome and reflections with GF4MX series cards. I can’t remember what to do but this topic has already been discussed in these forums several times I tried to find them but was not successful but I think FS2002tipster may help you he knows it for sure.

Gforce mx cards are not a good choice for games. They are designed for video applications like movies and so forth. The ti cards are much better for games. I went from a GF2mx to a GF4ti and i'm very impressed with the differance in graphic performance. Wink

BR_ - The driver entry varies from card to card unfortunately and my relpy only refers to the GF4 MX420.

The best bet if you have this problem with a different card is to d/load: gf4mxdsp.zip which contains entries for all the cards.

TJ_Gumby - The MX cards are cheap, which is why they sell of course. They have nearly all the graphical capabalities of their full blown cousins but their problem lies in their speed. A TI will give you faster frame rates, but at a cost.

Personlly, I couldn't afford it and got the MX - it gives me more than adequate (though not ideal fps) and graphics as good as any I've seen.

If you have adequate funds to afford a non-MX card, then you'd be well advised to get one, but if not, they are a viable alternative.

Hi Fs2002Tipster, thank you vey much for your advice. I just added these entries to the display cfg. and  Voila!!!, I'm having all the power of my simulator. This forum is awesome!!. I should have come here in the first place. I requested support for my vendor etc, and they didn't have a clue of what was going on.

Once again, thanks to Tipster and to everybody in this forum

Hey,
personally, I belive it's possible to get reflections on any card.  Doug Attrell got reflections working on his VoodDoo 5! Grin  OK, it won't be easy, but it should be possible to tweak them for any card. Wink

Also, you might notice that refelctions will work in CFS3 on your system even though they don't work in FS2002!  And your Extra 300S might work and the rest don't...anothet reason I feel it's possible to get them working on any card. Smiley

Very welcome. Smiley

Whitey: - Just to clear up a little confusion, when FS2002 was published, there was no such thing as a GeForce 4 card. CFS3 was obviously published a lot later and, consequently, I'd assume has the necessary entries to enable it to work correctly with GF4 cards.

Also, the reason why reflections work on some aircraft and not others, is that they will only work (properly) on GMax or FSDS2 aircraft. Not all the default aircraft were Gmax, the Lear being an example, so no refleclections.

If 3rd party authors have made the aircraft using GMax or FSDS2, and they've included the alpha layer in their paint which is the reflective surface, you'll see reflections on them. Otherwise you won't.

Hope that explains it. Smiley
