so I nearly crashed in the middle of greenland. I climbed to 15,000 feet with auto pilot, upon approaching the airport I set autopilot to drop to 5,000 but according to the altimiter I got to 7,000 and i looked at the ground and it looked very much closer than 7,000, and when I seen the lights of my aircraft on the ground I sort of guessed it was lieing and pulled up to the point of stalling. The thing is, I crossed the ocean onto this land and didin't come accross any significant raises in land or mountains that I could see, it was just barren flat land. So I couldn't trust my altimeter for the approach. The second problem which is a problem I've been having since I installed fs2002 for a second time, but it never happened in the first installation: Often when manually flying the aircraft, the controller appears to become jammed and I cant turn or do anything at all until I press press alt twice, this really screws up when taxiing because you keep going forward yet you cant turn until pressing ALT twice, although in this disastrous flight I killed the throttled except it didnt react because the controllers became jammed and I also couldnt put the nose down to land, and so I panicked, pressed alt twice, pushed the nose downwards and crashed at high speed in the middle of the runway Sad

thats a bit of a mouthful, but is there a problem with my fs2002 or am I just a bad pilot? Smiley

and also when in the spot camera view in this particular flight the view seemed to be zoomed in so far that it was INSIDE the aircraft, I tried to zoom out as much as possible but I was still inside the aircraft for some reason

Hey man!
As you probably know your altimeter works according to the atmosphere's pressure, therefore, when travelling from cold areas to warm areas and from cold areas to warm ones the pressure changes regardless of you altitude. that's why almost every time you contact the ATC they tell you the current altimeter setting, consisted with 4 digits. those 4 digits appear on you altimeter watch just below the center of the circle, if you want FS to do it automatically for you, press "B".

*I believe that at 30,000 ft your are supposed to reset your altimeter setting to 2992 (correct me if I am wrong).

Hope I helped,

Anytime you are above FL180 you should set your altimeter to standard 29.92 or the milibars equivilant, 1030.

This could be why you found yourself so close to the ground, because your altimeter setting was not set correctly.

As far as the controlles locking up, is your autopilot accidentally being turned on?  Sometimes I will press the "Z" key inadvertently when trying to press cntl + Z which is for the frame rates and info.

When in spot camera mode use the plus and minus keys to zoom in or out.  This maybe why you are so close to the aircraft when viewing in spot mode.

About the spot view...

Sometimes i mess the views myself. Once it happened that i was pressing some key that would make an undefault view the defualt one. For example, instead of returning to the panel, it would view the left. I went to view options and fixed, good as new. Maybe that works if the above does not. There you can fix the zoom easily. It gives you a preview as well.

No, if it happens while ATC is talking the sound of the ATC seems to get stuck in some sort of loop and sounds messed up. Part of the game tends to freeze yet the aircraft still moves, there's just nothing I can do about it except pressed ALT to be able to manouver the aircraft again :/
