Hi, I just installed FS2002, I was kind of wondering if this was OK and would do no harm to my computer or monitor, I set all the slides to right full on every thing and checked most of the boxes in settings. I have read a lot about frame rates and still don't understand them. I pressed the Shift Z keys twice to see what my frame rates were. They read from 39 to 98 through out take off and landing in heavy weather in skylane on 80 mile trip. Are these good frame rates or should I restrict them to a certian number. There is absolutly no stutter and scenery is beautiful,(I bought Ruud Faber's FScene)effects like rain are also very good. My monitor is set to 95 hertz, I use Win XP, 2.5 Pentum 4, 512 Rimm, and I have a ATI Radion 8500DV All In Wonder video card. All the settings on the video card are set to default, which is a balance between performance and quality. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan....!
With frame rates running at 98 and everything thing maxed out, I reckon you have got two Cray Super-Compters running in parallel.... Roll Eyes...!

I can't remember anyone claiming frame rates as high as that with settings at max.... Shocked...!
Most of us have to be content with 10 to 30 FPS with 3/4 settings.... Cry...!

Cheers...

P.S.  can I have a serial link with your set-up...

What resolution are you running at? I don't mean the resolution in Windows, I mean in FS2002.

To find out, in FS2002, go to settings, then display, then click the hardware tab. There will be a list box and each item has three numbers in. I run at 1280 x 1024 x 32 (the highest setting for my monitor) and I get framerates of 15 - 30 (all sliders maxed). If I reduce this to 640 x 480 x 16, I get framerates of 120ish. If your framerates are that high, you can afford to increase the resolution.

FS2002 is set at 1024x768x32,
do you think I should change?

That's flipping scary!!!

Yikes, I would do anything to get a hold of frames like that!  I have a P3 766MHz, 576Mb of Ram, Geforce 4 64Mb card, Win XP, and I still only get less than 10 frames, with the scenery settings on 3/4 with the bloody traffic off!  With the cessna.  I can't believe you need a top of the range computer to be able to even have the settings on full, all I want is 20-30 frames with all the settings on full with the meljet 772/3 from spot view, since the human eye can only detect 25-30fps, I would suggest you limit your frames to around 35, then the computer can concentrate on flight dinamics and stuff, so you get better aircraft performance and the computer doesn't worry about the graphics too much, but since you're getting such bloody excellent frames, it wouldn't really matter.  Enjoy them.

Greg

Unbelievable - I hope this isn't a "put-on" just to stress me out.     I have a reasonable set-up myself and seem to pull about the same F/rates as Fozzer etc.

However, when I was a total newbie, with a brand-new FlightSim, before I joined this forum and learned how to download mega stuff, I used to get better rates also.

A standard Meigs airport, before enhancement, being approached by a standard Microsoft cessna, is a far cry from todays approach in my newest re-built DC3 with many MB's of additional improvements.

I just added ex RAF airfield Brize Norton (Fozzer would know it well) and that just about puts my Pentium into reverse.

I get about 20-25 fps with all settings full, but like bazza, I think it's slower then it used to be, but that may have something to do with my FS2002 directory being almost 10 gigs Grin

Talk about Pentium envy.   ;D

I got a AMD1.8, 512PC2100, and a Radeon DV (orignal ol' school card, sight).  Getting ave. 18-20 with slider max at 1280x1024 resolution.  Time for an upgrade.

I thought I would join in here. I run the archaic Winblows 98, and at Meigs field with all sliders maxed I do get 30 fps. AI is set to 70%. My system specs are: XP 1800; 256 mb PC 2700; Gigabyte GA7VX motherboard; Visiontek GeForce 3 Ti 200 audigy gamer sound card/5.1 sound system. I guess I'm lucky to get these frame rates!
Some of you guys in this string are running half decent systems. Have you checked your aperature size for the AGP? I did some experimenting, and if I set my aperature to 64mb, my frame rates dropped to 20. I then set it to 256, the amount of RAM I have-still 20. Set it back to 128, went up to 30. So, if you haven't, try some experimenting with the aperature size. As you can see, 10 extra fps for switching it back to 128! That's a pretty big difference, but all systems are different.
