Hi all,

I noticed that I was flying at 35000 from Hong Kong to London at night. I had the clouds from 5000-10000 however, everytime I changed to spot view I'd see this green Cloud right above the aircraft.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Only the Northern lights spring to mind. Did you fly near the polar region?

I HATE that everyone but me has seen them!  Angry

Been flying in FS2002 for quite some time, have logged nearly 700hrs flight time in it, and not ONCE have I seen them on my transcontinental flights to Asia..  Every time I fly to China, I pass fairly close to the north pole on the offset chance that I would see them.

Does anybody have the exact time and date and location... I could view them?

Thanks for helping a poor pathetic soul  Cry

Well poor pathetic lost soul, be lost no longer. Try ICAO CYSY at 1500 during Winter, and all will be well, just head north!

As far as I remember you can't see them from inside the cockpit only from Spot Plane view, though I could be wrong about this.

From my experience I've seen them loads but when I switch to the cockpit they aren't there anymore.

You are, in my experience anyway, absolutely correct. I've no idea why this is, but they do seem to only appear in spot view. (V.C. might possibly get them - can't remember now.)

The only thing I can think of is that your scenery settings aren't high enough?

I've not come across anything that says they have to be on max to display this, but it might be worth a look if they aren't.

I max everything.. EVERYTHING... down to the last bit of display options.. except for the water reflections..

I'm still confused why I don't see them.  Someone enlighten me about the actual Northern Lights.  Do they appear about every night in the north?  And the south, under a different name..

Take a look at Leg 3 of my RTW tour. It's under part 1. (Link in my signature).

There are several screenshots in there plus the location and time. Setting that up in your own Simulator should produce them.

If not, then I'm at a loss apart from something in your hardware. What graphics card and drivers do you have?

For those of you that have not seen those green clouds, I was flying  at around 35000 ft near Norway on a flight from Hong Kong Kai Tak to London Heathrow. If you wonder what i was doing so far up there well LOL ask fsnavigator. They were only visible from Spot View. and they were a few thousand feet above my aircraft.

If I knew how to attach a picture to this post like other people do, I would so you can see it.

Look at the top of the page just under the simviation banner - there's a light blue bar with links. You want "Upload Images".

There are very good instructions embedded in a link there. Smiley

You need to include img tags around the outside like this:

[
img]http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/FS2002.jpg
[
/img]

which will produce the picture. Unfortunately - it seems you have the url wrong - it's case sensitive and needs to be exactly as you named the picture. E.g. fs2002.jpg or Fs2002.jpg - howevever you used capitals.

Go to where your pic is on your hard drive that you uploaded.

Right click it and select "rename" - then right click the name (which should now be highlighted in blue) and select "copy".

Paste the name in a reply here - I'll print the url for you to use straight after it. Smiley

I tried it with weirdclouds.jpg and weirdclouds.jpeg.

Either the file you uploaded isn't jpeg format (which it has to be) or it had capitals in it somewhere, or it was called something else. (I noticed you had FS2002.jpg up originally??)

Sorry I tried.

Thanks for trying, I had renamed it to wierdclouds and I remember saving them as jpg. If you want to I can send to you through e-mail and then you can take a look and perhaps upload them.
