Well Andy, for starters, if you want some cool new looking aircraft that use the default planes in FS2002, you can download some nice reflective textures at:
http://www.gjsmith.com/Textures/catalog.htm
.
GJSMITH has alot of those metallic textures in alot of different liveries. Just click on the default plane you want to get and there you go. If it is not a defaualt plane, the texture link will tell you where to get this aircraft and they are all pretty good ones.
For adding the textures there are some great tutotials
at Grumpy's Lair at:
http://www.simviation.com/lair/main.htm
Another good download for an entire aircraft would be The MelJet series at:
http://www.meljet.com
There are a few impressive 747's and 777's there.
Good luck and really check out Grumpy's lair. Alot of good info there, even on doing your 1st repaint!!!

It depends what kind of aircraft you want really. There are so many great ones here (as you observed).
For props I love the SU29! In vintage, well if you haven't got a Spitfire or two in your hangar then you aren't living.
Helicopters, well there are loads of fabulous ones, too many to list.
It comes down to what you enjoy flying, then try a few.
Everyone has their own personal preference.

Hey Ozzy,
Where can you get that "Special Spitfire"? I need to get one of these things and see what I am missing out on!!! My hangers are pretty much filled with jets and a prop or two.
I fly the props when I take the wife out on a little trip!
I would like to surprise her next time I take a day trip from Hyannis over to Nantucket!! I want to buzz the sun bathers!!

You'll find the MkV and MkXIVs here under the FS2k2 vintage downloads section.
Personally I like the V, and there are Merlin engine sounds you can add from the sounds download page. Brrr, better than a whole room full of turkish delight!
