Need help on flying 737 (Read 1260 times)

Especially with take off. When I take off manually with the joystick the climb is more erratic that way, but when I set the autopilot to climb it tends to nose dive or climb so high it stalls. How do I take off normally and perfectly? There are no lessons inside the game that cover taking off Sad

When you use the autopilot for take off do you have a VS (rate of climb) set and turned on?

If you are climbing manually, raise the nose to 10 or 15 degrees above the horizon. You can you your artificial horizon for this. You should be able to read it on the gauge. Plus use your VSI to get a climb rate. Maintain these incriments until you are at altitude. Also do not forget to keep your power in. You may have to adjust as you climb higher. Finding the perfect relationship between all of these is difficult, especially if you are in severe weather. It takes practice and you should have it in no time.

ahh thanks. What I was doing wrong was putting the AP on while I was still on the runway, but when I took off manually and then switched on the VSI while I was around 1 thousand feet it set in nicely

Another thing you can try is using the Flight Director.
Set the Autothrottle and FlightDirector to ON when you're lined up and ready to go. Gently increase your N1 watching that both engines are increasing evenly. When you're happy release the brake and as you start to roll engage TO/GA mode (I think it defaults to Ctrl+T).
You'll see TO appear at the top of your Engine display and the pink FD cross hairs will start to rise. When you reach Vr rotate the nose gently until the pink cross hairs are level with the 'wings' in your artificial horizon.
You should find you accelerate and climb no problems. Don't forget to set flaps before take off!

While I'm here, I am very new to the flight sim community, although I've been playing simulator 2002 for a couple of months now, so just a few random questions.

1. What scenery addons do you highly recommend?
2. What do you do to make the game last? (ie. online play, downloading new flights etc)
3. What is your favourite flight/area of the world to fly

Welcome aboard.

Scenery add-ons: There are freeware scenery add-ons for just about anywhere you care to mention along with the payware stuff. It's really a matter of personal preference in terms of where you like to fly.

Personally, I have about everything freeware going for the U.K. and Gary Summon's payware UK2000 airports series and Simflyers Manchester Airport as payware.

Other than that, I tend to install stuff for places where I've been (Changi in Singapore being an example). I can't ever recall adding scenery that wasn't an improvement on the default, so you really can't go wrong apart from with frame rates. Some of the really detailed stuff will hit your C.P.U. hard.

I fly around the world at the moment to keep it interesting for me. The link in my signature is the site where I report on the flight and post screenshots. Again, it's ll a matter of what floats your boat.

Favourite area so far for VFR is Nuuk in Greenland - spectacular

haha that reminds me of the time I was flying to america and the pilot said "if you look out the right hand side windows you will see the beautiful scenery of greenland" or something to that effect... and when we all looked out the window there was nothing but cloud Cry
