Discussing Gmax.....my original reasons for avoiding that program was their EULA. In the original release, they demanded that applets be installed in your computer that allowed them to see into it when you were online [in the fine print]. I sent a formal objection to Microsoft stating that they were supporting potential piracy of private work prior to copywrite. They acted like they knew nothing about the Gmax EULA. If the license agreement has been reworded, I would like to know about it. If it hasn't, all of you had better read it. I did not feel Gmax was user friendly in licensing. Tell me if they have changed.

It would seem easy enough for you to answer your question by re-read the EULA again for yourself.

Hey Flitezimz,
I don't think you will have any problems. I know they ask you to enable cookies when registering Gmax, but this didn't work for some people. If you check the Gmax Support Forums, there is a way around this though.

That would be the register patch and it can be found here:

If I remember correctly, you need to run the patch first before installing Gmax, right?

I registered Gmax originally, but after formatting the HDD, I didn't see the reason in re-registering

HAve you compelted ALL of the tutorials that come with gMax?
There really is no substitute to going through all the tutorials first, then playing with the program.
One highly recommended tutorials is the "Stupid Idiot's Guide to Making an Airplane with Gmax" .. commonly known as the "Stupid Idiot's Guide" ...
It's available from the main Simviation site, Design tutorials.

You people -those who are new to it- should try some projects that are considered a waste of time. For example, I modeled a simple box and made a series of tweaks in it [cutting, slicing, beveling, bending, etc.]. It may have been a waste of time, but it gave me ideas on how to do modify certain objects for a real project. That's how I ended up making nice-looking cars for FS.
But still, reading the tuts is a must. And you have to read them more than once and try them more than once so that you can lock that info into your head. I have read so many tuts and read them so many times, I might make my own mass tutorial on modeling techniques and how to solve unexpected problems that are not mentioned in tutorials.

gmax 1.2 is the latest version downloadable from discreets' site http://www.discreet.com , or, as you've noted, from CD-1 of FS2004. To actually create the flyable mdl file, you need the FSexport.dll that comes only in the FS2002 professional edition. (so does makemdl.exe, but you can get makemdl.exe from the Microsoft SDKs.)
Basically, Microsoft has not yet released a stand alone FSExport.dle for FS2004.

I'm using Autodesk 3ds max 2010, not registerd, but I can't save any .mdl files, do I need to register first? I can only safe files as .max or .chr (characters). I hope someone can help me with this, I really want to creat my own flyable aircrafts with Gmax :-?

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here, but to clarify:
FS2002 Pro included the SDK to convert the gmax file to scnery and aircraft models.
FS2002 Standard did not.
FS2004 came in only one "flavor", and the SDK was released separately. In essence, Microsoft DID release the tools for FS2004 sepearately. FS2004 GMAX SDK

The existing tools (FSX and FS2004) do not work (directly) with Max 2010. You would have to create your model, export as 3DS to gmax, and finish off there.

Is it possible to use Autocad to create a plane?
Yes... you can do a model using Autocad... but take care with the file size... and after you will need to export and add the correct names to all moving parts.

If I remember correctly, isn't there a plugin for GMAX that eliminates the need for MakeMDL? It's been a while since I played with GMAX and I am trying to set it up again. If this plug in still exists, I would appreciate the link.
