IE is about a 3 out of 10. Opera is about an 8 out of 10. It's not perfect, but i haven't found a browser anywhere near as good!

Opera works fine for me but there are disadvantages. I find browsing this site & forum in particular much slower on Opera compared with IE6. This might be due to my 56k modem connection although I don't seem to have the problem with other sites. Opera has many advanced search functions (including Google) but I do miss my Google Toolbar. As Bonzie found out, Opera does not seem to like FS2002 or FSDS (maybe both). I tried to check something out quickly while online yesterday & the PC locked solid. I can't remember this ever happening with IE6 & I had to reboot to fix it. One advantage is that you can restart Opera from where you left it.

Anybody using a 56k should be shot (jk).  however I don't like playing net games with 56k.. I personally use cable and is worth the extra 10-15$ a month.  And as for opera, until I hear more good things about it, I'm not sure if I want to mess with what I find works fine for me(IE6).

Hey Chunky, remeber that some of us out in the boonies can't get anything better than dial-up, whether we like it or not...  Wink

As for Opera, I too say if it ain't broken don't fix it. I've looked at it a couple times but thought as long as IE still works why bother changing...

You know there is a term "don't go back to a firework when it's been lit" now that doesn't apply what so ever here, but Opera is better than IE.

There is also the old Chinese proverb, "Do not remove a fly from your friend's forehead with a hatchet." Which has even less to do with anything here... Wink

I guess I might as well give Opera a try... What harm can it do? Smiley

Yeah, well I've left it aside, I'm afraid.

Opera seems much slower than IE - i really hate to have to say. I was getting time outs with Opera - not with IE6.
I have cached a lot of pages just to make sure that wasn't the problem.
I used to use Netscape too until they built in an 'update' feature that burst onto your page at random & halted surfing. *FLUSH*

What exactly do people find so great about opera?

All I use IE for is viewing web pages - & bookmarking. Nothing else & I have no complaints about it. Outlook Express is another story entirely - it leaves a lot to be desired -.... But IE6 - it does the job for me &  seemingly better than Opera.

I guess I forgot to think that cable and DSL is not available is alot of places.  Luckily I can get it, but fo those of who who don't have the option, if Cable or DSL ever comes around, get it!

You mean apart from the increased security, better downloading, faster connections (don't know why you were getting time outs, sure it wasn't the time of the day, or your settings) far superior user interface, completely customisable and the fact it isn't built by MS!

mm.... well maybe I should give it more time but ..

I rarely  use my browser for downloading - 99% is this site stuff  which I use FTP for.

Security is really an issue for me in ways other than a browser.

My connectiuon is governed mostly by my ISP & the current network traffic/conditions.

Superior Interface - OK maybe... ?

Not made by M$.... I'm always eager to support non-M$ stuff - naturally. We need monopoly/dominant businesses like a hole in the head - so I agree about that.

Customisable - Yes - I certainly like that  Grin

Give it about a month, and when you have got use to the mouse movement recognition you will love it. With just a swish of the mouse you can go back, forward bring up a new page. It's really usefull, seems like a bit of a gimmic to start with (also a bit hard to use) but once you have got used to it you will find you rarely ever use the back and forward buttons. Unless you go back to IE, then your trying to do all the fancy movement and all it comes up with is "do you wish to save this page?" "Grrrr nooo"
