What was the first aircraft you ever saw or remember seeing?

The first one I remember was in 1946 at Camp Gordon, a US Army "camp" at Augusta, Ga.  I was 4 and we had just joined my Dad, who was in an intelligence unit there and was soon to be discharged.  My brother and I would run out in the yard when we heard one flying over (still doing it! Embarrassed Cheesy)  The first one I remember was a big silver bird, probably a DC-3 (or C-47).

Surely I must have seen them before that, because I was born on the coast of Ala, and the flat coastal plane of Ala & the Fla panhandle was dotted with airfields....But this is the first one I remember...and still one of my favorites! Grin

What are your early aircraft memories?

Don't exactly remember the first one I saw because I probably was seeing them since I was first able to see Grin

Reason being that my grandparents live under the ILS approach path to Glasgow airport (EGPF) runway 23

One of the first airplanes I remeber seeing up close was the BUFF at an airshow, god damn those things are huge Smiley

I could go on for hours but I save you the pain Wink

1st seen (that I remember): Eastern Air Lines Constellation or Pan Am DC-6.

1st ride in: Eastern Air Lines DC-6

1st "furrin" plane I remember - Caravelle, (Air France) F-BJTA.  Used to pass over my high school on final to San Juan Intl Airport (SJU), late 60's

1st remembered is a 707 I rode in from HR to JFK at the age of 3...... still remember it & I got a host of goodies including a metal model of the jet, a hard cover childrens book on the BOAC fleet & a trip to the cabin. I think they've toned down a child's experience now ..... (like nothing + full fair...  Grin )

They had jets then?

Sadly, my F-BJTA ended up in Bangkok as a derelict.....(as of 1995)

In the late 50s when I was about 7 years old I sat in a Hawker Hunter at a Country Fair. I must have seen an Aircraft before that, but that one stands out.  Smiley

The first one I remember as a kid was an old Air Force jet the town bought and put in the park for us rug rats to climb around on. Unfortunately the hooligans in the town tore it up to the point that it had to be removed.
