If you think this checkride is hard to pass try the ones in FS2004 you have to fly them absolutley correct or forget it and some times even then you will not pass it one of the bugs in fs2004 are the check rides some just do not work right. 8)

I have never felt inclined to take any of the checkrides; but I'd like to know if one can get away with using autopilot to cary out turns, hold altitudes etc.. ???

NO you can not use the auto pilot to make the turns with or to hold altitude with. I passed the Private pilot check ride on the third try but then I used to take lessons so I am sure that helped me alot. 8)

On these checkrides, who is coaching you? Is it the sim or is there a CFI somewhere watching you do your stuff? Do you send him some sort of electronic record of what you did? I'm curious...

I am a commercial Pilot with over 12,000 hrs on dozens of different Aircraft, mainly Military transport and my own Cherokee Arrow. I was asked by a close friend to try the check rides, believe me, it's not technique, practise or style, just a combination of a fast computer and a really good graphics card. If you have those and you can fly the sim, then you can pass. It took 60 tries for me and for the life of me I couldn't understand why bitching Betty failed me. Then after upgrading my system it was 1st try. Now I fly FS9 sim and tried it, but haven't passed it yet. I come to the conclusion that you have to stretch your budget to do it, but ain't that the case in everything?

if you keep failing at the steep turn, start into the turn, get to the 45 degree angle, and pick a point on the dashboard to keep even with the horizon. hold it there and viola!...I've completed it, and the certificate popped up while I was still on the runway (as soon as I came to a stop)

...&&Currently flying around the world! Coming to an airport near you!!!
