In a small villiage in Staffordshire and young man slept soundly in his bed. Just as he was dreaming of what he would do if there were girls in Stafford he was awaken by a rat a tat tat on the door. Confused on who would be calling at this hour of the morning he fell back asleep and left it for another one of his student budies to get. A good 4 hours later he awoke again to the twittering of birds on this warm sunny day. He stepped out of bed and walked towards the window, flung it open and shouted to the postem "good morning Pat, how are things?" pat replied with a raptuas "good morning Paul, have you seen your parcel?" Paul was confused and had instant panic of a terrorist attack on his temporary student home. Grabbing his P99 he raced out onto the landing. His entire body was tenced waiting for the almost inevatable gun battle he was going to have with this parcel. After one or two commando roles Paul decided to go back into his room and put some clothes on. After getting dressed he dived out of his doorway training his laser sight on the parcel. He lay there for some time just staring at the red dot projected on the parcel. He studied it from a far, it was a box. 30 cm's by 40 by 30. There was a note on top, he dived down the stairs always keeping the laser dot on the box. Just before landing he did a tripple backflip tea-cup somersault. Landing perfectly, exactly 20 cm's to the right of the box, he holstered his pistol and pulled out his combat knife. Swiverling it around his fingers in order to get a better grip while checked the box for ticking noises. Paul carefully sliced open the box while looking around the hallway for any sources of bright light that could possibly set off a light trigger. Once the cut had been made on lid of the box he opend the it. "Thank god" he thought, it was only his Saitek joystick. It had come back hopefully fully repaired. He threw the knife up the air making it spin as it flew, he rotated his back so the scareb was perfectly in line with the now falling blade. It slotted in with a resounding click. He flicked the locking catch over and carried his joystick upstairs to what would hopefully be a long and happy life of games and flight simulators.
the end
thats right i got my joystick back today. Yipeeeeeee i can now play games again!
paul
ps i just hope it works, it says they repaired it.

Man you should write books Paul! That was AWESOME!
I know EXACTLY how you feel. Today I completed "finally" my IFR certification checkride and received my certificate which I hang proudly on my wall. My reward was 2-fold. Sadly I retired my Wingman Extreme 3D. I put it back in its original box looking brand new! And then, quietly, but cauctiously, I slowly, very SLOWLY, unleased out of the brand new box >> The ULTIMATE, flight stick... OH my, what a beautiful looking devise... YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! The Microsoft Force Feedback 2.

on the special DVD copy of this story theres an alternate ending...
"Once the cut had been made on lid of the box he opend the it.
KA-BOOOOOM!!!
The house erupted with bright red flames and thick black smoke, shards of cardboard, chippings of brickwork and cuts of paper few into the air...
one of the piceces of paper landed on the pavement, on it read
'Sorry to give your hopes up paul, this isnt your joystick. Instead its a large block of PT-4. hope you like it
Andy'
a long way away in shropshire, Andy swiveled around in his leather chair, stroking his cat, Kipper. the shockwave of the blast could be heard from miles away. he started cackling in self achievement"
Im sorry that's even worse

2 hours later a Black-hawk lifted off from Farah heading North Westerly. Meanwhile at Karachi airbase Steven, Paul's friend of 5 long combat ridden years, was standing out side of hanger B. He checked his watch, turning to David Moranaz, a French born combat pilot of the highest degree, he said, "they should just be taking off about now, you better go get her ready". David looked up from his book and replied, "Hey chill man, we got ages". He was right; it would take the Black-hawk even at full pelt a good couple of hours to reach them. They could afford to relax a while. But still Steven was anxious. If someone could kill Paul then surely it wouldn’t be too difficult to kill any of them. Gladly he was snapped out of his sombre mood by a sharp wind blowing in from the mountains. David turned to Steven and said, “I thought the winter was over?” David replied “Were in Afghanistan now mate, the winters can be bastards!”
David had flown in the previous morning to a beautiful sunrise. He, like the rest of the people at Kabul airbase, was a member of the elite fighting force the ATF. The ATF were made up of the best soldiers from virtually every country on the Globe. Taking orders, and funds, directly from NATO, they were well funded and well organised. They all use to joke that they were only around thanks to Tom Clancy and Rainbow Six. Dave thought that if it wasn’t for that book NATO wouldn’t have got an idea that good in a million years.
David clanked up the rusty boarding steps, kindly and unknowingly supplied by Ariana Airlines, onto an equally rusty DC-10. Dave started muttering about the quality of junk he was given to work with. He slumped down into the pilots seat and fumbled under it for a headset. After going through all the settings on the head brace he decided that it must only be the French who can actually make things to fit people. When Steven fell into the co-pilot seat next to him all he could here was David muttering “Cheap American crap!”. David looked around, “so you’re here at last then!” Steven could see he wasn’t happy; this was going to be a long trip. Steven decided that now wasn’t a good time to ask him if he had allowed for the difference between European measurements and the old American measurements. David started twiddling knobs and leavers until the plane burst into life, at least on the left side anyway. With more mumblings of anti American plane building techniques, he started the right side up. Judging from the hastily retreating fuel truck and most of the dials all the way to the right or up, Steven concluded that he had worked the fuel levels out correctly.
Once everything was up and running a calmness fell over David that in turn passed onto Steven. As they were going to have to sit here for a while and wait for the less than rapid approaching black-hawk they decided to have a game or two of noughts and crosses on the back of the flight plan. After Stevens 12th win David’s headset burst into life with some Spanish mumbo jumbo. “Despierte al hombre, sus cuńas release/versión y usted puede rodar cuando es listo”. “Roger eso”. David replied. Steven stared questioningly at David as he continued to spout off more and more fluent Spanish lingo. When the rather lengthy conversation was over David glanced over with a big smile on his face, “What?” he asked in a chirpy voice. Steven just simply didn’t reply and lead David’s eyes down to the noughts and crosses game. David pushed the comms button “Flight…” he glanced out the window to the deserted airport. “Flight…1 permission to taxi to pickup point?” there was no reply. David started to look more and more annoyed, seeing this Steven asked what was wrong. David didn’t answer but instead repeated his request. Steven looked around for another headset. Several adjustments later, David could here him mumbling that it must only be the British who can make headsets that actually fit people. Steven asked again, “What’s up?”. An again David didn’t reply, he just repeated his request. Steven turned around to take a look down the plane. It looked pretty stripped out. There were a few seats still in place but in the main there was just rows of computer type terminals. It must have been used as some sort of high-ranking boffins transport he thought. Just then the plane lurched forwards as the engines went from idling up to full power for what seemed to Steven as a very long 4 seconds. The DC-10 taxied across the rather damaged runway, dodging holes as it went. Steven was sure that they hadn’t been given clearance, but David knew what he was doing.

Steven hadn’t been in many cockpits; in fact he had gone off flying until he met David. He had made him feel safe and that was Stevens’s main problem. He was in a Chinook crash in the Highlands of Scotland when out on manoeuvres. Since then he hadn’t even liked getting close to an aircraft. It was on those manoeuvres that he had met Paul. He was being transported from a special scientific base deep in the Scottish countryside. At the time Paul was only 12. The two wouldn’t meet again until 4 years later. At that time Steven was in charge of a special computer espionage division of the MOD called the Watchers. It was there job to watch members of Government home and abroad and of many different countries, just to check on what they were doing. Completely illegal, but what government activity isn’t? From there they had both been recruited into the ATF. That was on the day of Paul’s birthday. He thought he was possibly a little young to be enlisted into the army back then, and even younger to be enlisted into an elite fighting force as this. But Steven had to learn to understand that time had moved on from his Falklands days and that computers were fast becoming the new battlefield.
David taxied the DC-10 very close to the ATC to check if someone was even awake up there. They were both shocked to find it empty. A few seconds later the reason was apparent. They were all coming back from the dinning hall. David started to wish that the full deployment of personnel had come yesterday and was not pencilled in for next week. That included high rankers, he didn’t like or get on with them, but at least they would have made sure someone was in the tower. The plane continued to taxi to the meeting point. They passed some open hangers that contained a couple of C-17’s. All of a sudden both men felt immense jet envy. David turned the plane 90 degrees so he wouldn’t have to look at them anymore. A few hundred metres later they came to standstill.
Out of the starboard window members of the ground crew were running around placing flares and smoke canisters. Steven turned to David, who had begun fiddling with knobs and leavers again, “it won’t be long now!”. David didn’t reply. He looked a bit more anxious now. But before Steven could open his mouth to ask what was wrong David had gotten up and was walking towards the door. He carefully open it, letting it come to rest on the end of its hinges. A warm breeze filled the cabin, “It’s got hot out there” said David surprised. David’s Spanish friend appeared again pushing another set Ariana boarding steps up to the plane. The next second the awaited Black-hawk made it’s entrance. David actually felt sorry for the air as the huge Marines chopper beat it into submission. It made a very quick orbit of the landing zone then began its final approach. With smoke and flares blowing everywhere the helicopter settled down on the ground. Only when the rotor blades had completely stopped and the door had opened did Steven start to relax.

Hey DTWD
Great story, but watch out about mentioning crashes:
Quote:
He was in a Chinook crash in the Highlands of Scotland
There was a chinook crash a few years ago, you'll probably remember, in the Highlands, the chopper was filled full of high ranking officers and some CI5 agents. Nobody survived. Just letting you know incase anyone complains. Great story though, I'll be logging on to read part 2 tomorrow

Thanks for the heads up, but i already knew about that. Thats the one that first they said it wasn't pilot error. then they did. now they don't. isn't it?
But i was trying to add a bit of background to it. odviously i am sorry for the family's and friends of the people who were in that crash but i have to say i am not referencing that crash specifically. Just that there have been a number of chinook accidents in the recent past and i am doing this to kind of base it in some sort of reality. Thats why the first bit is based entirely in Afganistan.

Hey DTWD
Yes that crash is the one your thinking abut. It happened a few years ago but the pilots only just (i.e. last month) got pardoned for the blame of it. I think it was due to the horror stories of other pilots of that chinook series that made them realise it was mechanical (or to be more specific, the flight control computer) that was to blame.
Cheers

this dos'nt have to be used but i thought it would add some more spice to the story!
Mean while Andy sat in his chair on the other side of the globe. On the top floor of a 150 story building. As he sat his cat, , began to clean its self. Just then, Andy office door opened and two very large blokes carried in the maimed body of Paul. They slammed it on the desk. Andy demanded that they leave. The two men left. Then Andy sat down, and slowly began to devour the body. Nobody quite knew why he did this, but it’s probably due to the fact that he is part demonic.
