 I was supposed to go to Barksdale, LA, but traded with a guy from LA and went to Kirtland, NM. I preferred open spaces and dry weather over humidity, mosquitos, gators, and swamps. It turned out to be a good swap for me. The squadron I was assigned to turned out to be one the highest ranked ones in that career field, which meant higher visibility and recognition. Plus it  offered more TDY's, which meant no transfers for the first 6-8 years.

Yeah the Air Force has a pretty good set up with there flying clubs even tho you hafe to pay a small fee, its still a whole lot cheaper than going to the local airport.

Ok...I can't stand reading this anymore. Depending on what career field you go into, provided you aren't coming in open general, you'll be able to cross train after about 3 years, provided that you re- enlist. (If you've gone in open general, you'll be a Sp {MP in the Army} no questions asked.) Provided that you can pass all the tests to get into OTS and can pass the tests to be a pilot, then you'll be considered. It doesn't matter if you have any kind of flight training or ratings, you'll learn it all over again...uncle sugar's way. The Aero Clubs are by no means free, and as an enlisted, you might fly once or twice. If you're serious about flying for the military, check out the Guard/Reserve and they have all sorts of programs to become an officer. Then just major in Aviation Science and you'll be set either way. (Uncle sugar doesn't care what the degree's in, as long as you have one. Kiss all the butt you want...it doesn't help.) If I had it to do all over again, (in the USAF now) I probably would go talk to the Army of all places. Ask them about becoming a Warrent officer and fly helos. The money is better on the outside anyway, and they are harder to fly. I'm not trying to put you down, but help you out.

I'm also looking into enlisting with the USAF.  I'm going to be in Aerospace Maintenance as a Crewchief.  I already know what base I'm going to be at.  911th Airlift Wing out of Pittsburgh International Airport.  I'll be assigned to work on the later model C-130's. I can't wait to get to Pittsburgh, but am really not looking forward to Basic Training.  But its going to be worth the effort though.  I'll graduate Basic Training to Senior Airman.  All since I went to college first.  Then I get to work on airplanes!
