Hello again. Its been awhile since I was on and I have acouple of questions I downloaded a few new a-320 a/c and they all work but the landing lights are the only lights that work. No strobe, logo, beacon lights etc. Did exactly as the directions said but no lights. Also, the planes show up but their names are under a different plane and now all of the planes are one a/c off. My COCA COLA XMAS plane name is under my PEACH A/C NAME  PEACH is under my Spirt a/c and so on. One last thing, downloaded the Air Newzealand ALLBLACKS 777 everything works on it but the autopilot. Seam like all of the 777 I download are like this. Do i need to configure it in the a/c config file?

Hi,

As far as the planes under wrong name, I may be wrong but look at your aircraft list on the aircraft selection screen for one with the thumbnail missing, You'll have to create one for it.

You can manually do a screen shot and resize it or look in the utility downloads section here on SV, there is a little utility that will do them for you, see page 7 of fsx/utilities.

regards

Steve

So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs, but that is due to change Smiley

I need to ask this.
When you download an aircraft, how do you install it?

First off,got the autopilot working on my 777. As far as downloading of a/c goes, I download into a temp folder then extract all files to my folder then read the how to file and put the a/c folder they say to use into the simobject\airplane folder and if they say copy effects to the effects folder i do that also unless its already there. Did i do something wrong? Ican get 2 a-320 a/c downloaded then on the third thats when they start to be listed under a different name ie you see an air creation ultralight but it says blah blah a-320 and will show up as the a-320 if you click on it. Have taken them all off and will reinstall.

As long as you dont extract zip files directly into fsx its ok.
Ref effect files. Its a good idea to check the date on the file. It might be newer one.

You can use notepad to edit the file and is probably the best way to do it.

Right click on the .cfg file and select 'open with...' and choose notepad.

OR

Select run from the start menu and type in notepad then use file/open and navigate to the correct .cfg file.
You may need to copy the file first to the desktop and edit here, depends on the location of your main fsx folder.

Another way is on the desktop is to right click and select new txt file.
open this file then drag and drop the file you want you want to edit onto it.

Gimme bout' 30 minutes to an hour, and I'll post some screen shots that might be able to help you on this,,, and i'll try to explain some things.

Keep in mind I've installed just over 4,000 Aircraft in my FSX Simulator,,, mostly manually,,,

be back with you shortly,,

OK Hopefully I can explain this so you'll understand it ???

if NOT, maybe somebody else can better than me ?  Shocked

IF - I understand you correctly - your Aircraft that you downloaded isn't showing up with the Rest of your Airbuses in the "Aircraft List" , category .

Within your Flight Sim, go find where your Aircraft resides / parked at,

in FSX  its listed under Sim Objects / Airplanes - Yellow type folders.

Open up the Aircraft Folder, scroll down to where your Troubled Aircraft is located / filed.

Open it up - scroll down to the "Aircrafts CFG File".

OPEN it up / using "NOTEPAD" !! ( See Screen Shot below)

Then go search within the File for the "ENTRY" , titled       UI_ Variation=whatever Aircraft Manufacturer ???

Make that Entry says , the Name of the  Manufacturer that your Aircraft is made by !!!!

Example : Airbus , or maybe Boeing , or Beechcraft - or McDonnel Douglas , or Cessna etc......

Delete the Entry of the Manufacturer only - NOT  the -  UI_ Variation=   part   ,, leave that alone !!!

Then Type in the Actual Name of the Manufacturer of your Aircraft ,  then click "SAVE" in the upper Left hand corner of the file at the Menu's Top of the CFG File ,,, important to Click Save Always !!!!

Your Aircraft will / Should show up under the Correct Aircraft Manufacturer with all the others !!!

I've seen some examples of another name used in the UI_ Variation, that'll cause the Aircraft to NOT show up, in its Correct Category with the other Aircraft of that particular Catagory, why they do it I have no idea, doesn't matter,, personel preference I presume or they just forgot,, , no Big Deal, if ya know what to look for and how to Change / Edit the Aircraft CFG File.

So Say you have a Boeing - but its listed say under  Apples Aircraft,,,,

Delete , Apples Aircraft, and change it to Airbus or Boeing, or whatever as described above.

Study the Aircrafts CFG File closely, compare it to other Aircraft CFG Files within your Sim, and look for any Differences there might be,,,????

Sometimes I'll get an Aircraft that won't show up correctly or NOT at all,, and I'll go into that particular Aircraft thats troubling me - and look / search within the CFG File for Wrong entries , and change them and 90% of the time, they'll show up correctly !! Presto' like Magic, I've got a new plane !!  Smiley

Another way I've done is to "COPY" a previous Entry from the "CFG File", and "PASTE" it below the next corresponding Entry

Then go in and Change it - to the NEXT corresponding Number of the next Aircraft in the list

[fltsim.0]

[fltsim.1]

[fltsim.2]  Etc,,,,,,,,,

Then also,, change the title and the UI_Variation

and the "Texture" name to correspond with the correct name of the Texture folder for your Aircraft, that your trying to INJECT into your Simulator

rather it be FS 2004 / or FSX doesn't matter , works the same !!  Shocked

So - go look at that Aircraft, study it carefully,, pay attention,,, carefully, take your time ,,,,,

make sure the "Texture folder" name is Correct and the Entry within your Aircrafts CFG File match !!! (important)

and have a good look, at the ENTRY of that UI_ Variation  as to what it says,,,  change it to whatever you'd like so it'll show up with the rest of your Aircraft or wherever you want ,,,,,

See Screen Shot Examples below !  Cool

Hope - maybe this helps ???

If NOT ,,,,

Call 1-800- Don't get it !!!

A foreign speaking operator will place you on hold for days !!!  Grin Grin  Angry Angry
