Not sure where this actually goes, but I'm posting it here.

After adding my 2nd Saitek COM/NAV Panel last year, FSX didn't seem to like it too much and wouldn't load.  I was forced to reinstall FSX and hadn't had a problem until yesterday.

I did a flight from KCCR (Concord, CA) to KMRY (Monterey, CA) in Carenado's C340.  After the flight, I went to check my logbook (because I know FSX has issues with it's logbook) and again... FSX froze and would no longer load.

Being quite annoyed with this, it went to a local computer/electronics store and purchased X-Plane 10 North American Region ($30).

X-Plane 10 PROs:
  1. Excellent default scenery
  2. Excellent 2D and Virtual Cockpits
  3. Excellent aircraft and airport lighting
  4. Excellent 3D airport graphics, such as lights and following terrain on runways and taxiways

X-Plane 10 CONs:
  1. Doesn't seem to play well with the Saitek panels, especially the Multi-panel (autopilot)
  2. Seemingly difficult to setup buttons and key commands
  3. ATC requires a Flight Plan to communicate with them, and it must be specific (tried it without any luck)
  4. Unless it's a MAJOR airport, no buildings or control towers (even if it's a controlled airport) appear
  5. AI Traffic is minimal to none, and when there is AI Traffic (had a United Boeing 747 take-off behind me at KCCR, largest runway is 5001 feet) it's incorrect

If Laminar Research would fix these quirks... I'd drive to Washington State and smack Bill Gates in the head personally with FSX!

Until then, FSX has been reinstalled  Angry Angry  Angry

Nice set up "BE58D"... Smiley

I can tell you now I get more than annoyed with Windows7 and FSX even with a high end computer and many payware products like REX and ORBX.

Not a computer genius by any means I still think the way to go is with a:
-homebuilt motion flight simulator
-capable of single and multi engine flight simulation
-an operating system that out performs Microsoft Products

There are already several complete units which work well with several different motion platforms on the market.

They do cost four or five thousand American Dollars and then there is the added cost of the motion platform which is probably close to the cost of the unit.

I did call one American Manufacturer last year who told me they had no problem modifying their unit to simulate single and multi-radial engine aircraft with Carburetor Heat Control Handles and Cowl Flap Controls and no extra cost.

I was impressed with the Warranty they offered and the fact they would come here to Canada to set up the entire unit.
They were friendly, patient and very informative on the phone about several of the aircraft I mentioned.

I am waiting to see how one of our son's and grandson make out with the motion simulator they are building.
My grandson say's "Gramps...it will even simulate a Grumman Goose on water"... Grin

I do manage to get into several real flight simulators once a month which cost close to what the aircraft they simulate are worth.
They even have smoke in the cockpit to simulate a fire.

The above and actual real flying takes away the frustration
using the Game Microsoft FSX and the problems with the Operating System Microsoft Windows7.

I wonder how Microsoft Windows8 works with FSX?

Like you I am also stuck using Microsoft... Lips Sealed

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Thanks Flying Trucker.  I think X-Plane has great potential.  The Saitek issues maybe more of a Saitek driver issue than X-Plane issue.  The remaining quirks are definitely an X-Plane issue.
