I noticed a lot of people seem to be sick and quite a few of them have the same symtons over here and in tenerife:Headaches, high fever,a terrible cough,a blocked nose and feeling extremely weak,a sinus infection being the cause, but a infection like that can't spread that fast can it?
Could it be some virus that brings on a infection?

I was just wondering if anyone else here got similar symptons,it's also quite a persistent virus,my dad was sick for more then a week and taking antibiotics and I was taking 4 paracetamol a day just to get rid of the headache since the christmass tests where during that time.

This is the one that many folks in Britain have been suffering from recently...>>> http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Norovirus/Pages/Symptoms.aspx

Very contagious, and requires scrupulous cleanliness, to keep it a bay.

Easily passed between folks, by contact.

I have very little, if any contact with anyone, so I am unlikely to be affected!

If you touch me, I will kill you!... Angry....!

Paul.... Grin...!

Getting a diagnosis:
Norovirus can be diagnosed by having a sample of your stools tested in a laboratory.

Cure:
Sit on a stool in a Laboratory, until they tell you to go away... Wink...!

A bunch of people here in Canada were getting the flu, I'm not sure if its the same as what you were getting over there. The health board recently said that the worst was over though

At the beginning of December, I got something - (I blame it on the flu).  On the upside, I did lose 15 lbs (note to Hagar - just 1 st.)  which I've managed to keep off - through the holiday season!

Fits the symptons but it's not something that goes over easily by sitting at home,my Dad went to the doctor and they said he had to take antibiotics for a week or 3 injections. Tongue

Sitting at home is the most sensible advice for a highly infectious complaint like the flu. Trying to carry on normally just spreads the virus to everyone you come into contact with. That's how epidemics start. http://virus.stanford.edu/uda/

Thanks Grandad. Hope you're fully recovered. I do know what a pound is. It's kilograms I have problems with. Undecided

Yep, it's called the flu.  Wash your hands very often, especially when in public.  Very often.  And keep your hands away from your face when in public.  It all can't hurt.  And don't shake hands with anyone.

We've got an epidemic here in the States, with some having died from it too, this one is more widespread than most recently, I think.  There's shots available, they may not fully protect tho, so you can still get it, but in a milder form.

It's nasty and need careful attention.

My worst flu experiences:  1958 when I was 10, the Asian Flu, over the holidays, a terrible 2 weeks with every symptom, including high fever, couldn't even keep down food or stand up much.  I'm sure my parents were extremely worried about me.  I somehow survived.

Summer 2007:  2 weeks a of mild strain, low fever came and went, so it was managible, but still uncomfortable, of course.

The after math is usually low lever fevers for a week or two, and coughing.

Not fun, not fun at all.

Then sinus infections must be a possible side-effect(which is probably quite likely)
It's a pain, only my mom wasn't as badly affected since her nose was runny instead of blocked like mine and my dad's. Wink
And yes, sitting home is a  good advice for infectious diseases but it doesn't go away easily,at least not like your average flu or cold.

Flu strains mutate from year to year, so you have to get a shot each year that's specific for that year's flu.

Also, I think antibotics are effective only against bacterial infections, not viral infections, which is why every time I've gone to the Dr with the flu, it's always just "Drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest, and pay me X $'s on your way out."
