I've always been a low-n-slow guy..  but the lure of complex systems and realistic workloads needed for moving people around never lets up.

I've tried the CaptainSim 757, and PMDG 747.. both very nice, and a fun handful to learn.. but realistic flights for both take HOURS.. so a regional turbo-prop was in order (why I modeled the Saab340)..

Alas.. MSFS turbo-prop modeling is a mess.. I heard that PMDG "fixed" that for the J41, so I finally got around to trying it.. and the it's true. This model and its systems are creepy realistic.. reward realistic handling by the virtual pilot.. punish him accordingly..  Icing is even modeled (visually), and the de-ice systems work very well... as does the the FMC / Auto-pilot.. Start-ups are a blast, too..  Smiley

Looks like your FMC turned off in the last one Grin Wink

Don't you love it when the engines catch on fire if you dont start them right?

This was a short, no-airway, low-altitude flight (KDLH - KSAW).. picked up the needed VOR from the takeoff.. no STAR at KSAW either..

And yeah.. engine handling is fun.. just gotta start-lock the props, and release them when you're ready to roll..

I've managed a routine that makes shutting them down properly, payoff.. so they're already in beta for the next startup:

Park, cool-down, shut all systems down, hit the 'STOP' button for each engine, followed quickly by bringing that throttle into reverse, before RPMs drop below 50%.. then kill the batteries/generators..

After all PAX are in the terminal.. save the flight.. then load a C172 (from in in game to replace the parked J41) .. save it as a flight to load FIRST, for the next J41 flight..

Next flight:

After the saved C172 loads.. load the saved J41 flight (from in game).. so its right where you left it, shut down properly, same panel-state..

Edit: For those who don't know.. loading J41 directly from free-flight, can be problematic..

I remember having a BAe Jetstream 31 panel v2.0 inside my fs2004. It came with some 100 page manual!!
That plane was really hard work to get started without trubles, and i dont think i at any time got it right.
If that j41 is simular handling,  then be prepared all of you.

Nice shots Brett Wink

There are several manuals (hundreds of pages) for this J41.. but it's not like other, complex payware I've owned, in that it's not like a counter-intuitive set of routines to be blindly memorized, and then followed like a disproportionately difficult, robitic routine, and then crossing your fingers hoping you didn't do something slightly wrong, or slightly out of order. It all makes sense, and after learning the systems, you think to yourself.. "of course that's how it's done".. "how could it work any other way?"   Cool

IOW.. this model presents a realistic, and satisfying challenge. Not an inane set of system-hoops to jump through, leaving you hoping you've earned a "treat" .. ESPECIALLY the startup, and FMC. Even after several flights in payware to remain nameless.. I'd STILL enter the cockpit, like I was a game-show contestant hoping to solve a puzzle..  Grin
