Definitely the worst list ever!  They missed a lot!!!

Randy Rhoads
Yngwie Malmsteen
Eric Johnson
BB King
John Bonomassa
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Mark Bonilla
Vinnie Moore
Patrick Rondat
Joe Perry

And that's just a few that only took me a minute to think of.

Those 'pickers' at the Spin rag need to put away the doobage before they spew and publish!

I love the smell of radials in the morning!

No list of so-called greatest guitarists can be complete without Hendrix leading it off.   Period.   The concept of a "great guitarist" is often subjective, but when making a list, you'd think for sure certain players would be included without fail.

For me:

Jimi Hendrix
Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page
Robbie Krieger (the Doors)
Martin Barre (Jethro Tull)
John McLauglin (he was on the list)
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath, he was also on the list)
Robert Fripp (on the list)
Michael Bloomfield (American blues guitarist, played on some Dylan recordings and concerts.  His performance on the Electric Flag's 'A Long Time Comin' was superb.)
Dick Dale (No kidding here about Dale, the "King of the Surf Guitar", another lefty, but he didn't reverse the strings like the other lefties did)
Les Paul (let's not leave Les off)
Keith Richards (great guitar work with the Stones)
George Harrison
Mick Abrams (1st guitarist for Tull, left and formed Blodwyn Pig)

Inovation and originality for all the above.

Many others I/we missed.

I think Spin needs to understand that great guitarists didn't just come about after the 60's.  It was all the great guitarists in the 50's and 60's who paved the way.

Always do your own list and satisfy yourself as to who was who and who did what.  We can't quantify music.

One of the few on that list I'd agree with is the edge.(position might be lower but I think he should still be quite high)
Just my 50 cent.

You can tell by the choices how old the writer of the article is... not very.

here's some more to add to the mix:

Jeff Beck
Lee Ritenour
Roy Buchanan
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Gary Rossington
Steve Gaines
Allen Collins
Albert King
Chet Atkins
Jerry Reed
Albert Collins
and...

Whoever compiled the Spin list was short sighted and not much of an audiophile, IMO.

What an irritating site - clicky and it goes to the next headline ... not the article ... & it takes a long time to load if you're not on cable ...
