A couple days ago I was browsing my local Bestbuy and came across a FSX addon by VRS, The F/A-18 Superbug.  It wasn't in the discount pile or on clearance and I bought it.  I got home, printed the HUGE manual, installed the aircraft and flew for a couple hours.  The aircraft is greatly detailed and without the manual you can't get it off the ground.  I went to the VRS website for a little tech support on a question.  One thing that wasn't mentioned anywhere on the box or in the manual was that since I didn't buy it directly from VRS I'm not allowed to get the same support as others.  Basically on my own.  THEY sold a bunch of copies to BestBuy at a discounted price and it doesn’t include any help from them.  They only way you find this out is attempting to setup a user name on their forum you enter your product code and it pops up a dialog box that says you bought the cheep version and your SOL.

If I would have know this it would have changed my decision.

That is no way to treat someone who just spent their hard earned money Angry

I've had the Superbug for quite some time now, and have logged many hours in it. Perhaps I could help you with whatever it is that's hangin' you up Wink

Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Will Best Buy let you return it if you explain to them why (no forum support and that was not stated on the box)?

While you can not post be topics (questions) I think that you are allowed to search the VRS forums, did you try and do a search on your paticular question to see if there were any previous threads on it?

Like Chuck said, post your problem and may be we can help.

I'd be surprised if Best Buy will accept a software item as a return. Most of the big corporate box stores refuse, won't take any kind of media as a return. Maybe as a credit for another purchase, though.

Sounds like VRS classifies this as a "gray market" sale and refuses support, another all-too-common and all-too-lousy business practice. Surely VRS can't be so big that it can ignore its customers (like big corporations do).   Angry

You folks seem a bit lucky.

Here in Canada we can not get Best Buy or Future Shop to carry anything along the Flight Simulator Lines.

When the stores first opened they did.

Now because everything is available on line they are not interested.
Seems Aviation World is going that way also.

When we mentioned to Best Buy and Future Shop they were ten to fifteen minutes from the largest air base on the continent they did not care.
Hope they go the way of the dodo bird.... Tongue

This is a bit odd. I bought mine at Bestbuy about a year ago, and unless they've made policy changes, you could get direct customer support through this link (also on your windows startmenu):

https://secure.softwarekey.com/solo/customers/

I seem to recall that I had to register using  my Licence ID, and Password, both found on a sticker in the box.
I then had an option to "register products purchased through authorized dealers", and after that I had access to a customer service e-mail addy on my main customer page that resolved my issues, as well as direct links to the main site, and support site.
I had to register again for the latter two, again using the ID and password codes, but had no problem doing so that I remember. It was pretty much like registering for any forum otherwise.
I don't recall a "no service for cheap copies" notice, but I couldn't say I didn't get one either. All I wanted to do was read, and it let me do that just fine.
But, come to think of it, either way, it might be quicker to take the previous offers for help you've gotten here.... Grin

Update:
  Here, read this: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/281747-vrs-superbug-released-but-their-support-foru...

It explains why I never had trouble getting support. I didn't try posting for it in the forums, I just used the e-mail addy.

Yeah you can't post but you DO get support.  I asked a question and Jon emailed me back within 5 minutes.

Any chance the offer still stands on some support here for the VRS?

I just sent an email to the admin, thinking maybe someone else has had the same problem.

I recently had to reload all of my FSX Payware and I am having fits with my VRS Superbug F/A-18.  I loaded everything today and it went fine.  I tried to fly the jet and for some reason my throttles will not return to idle once engaged.  I move them slightly and they go to Military power and will not return to idle.  I cant even right click each throttle and shut the engines down.  I can enter into Slew mode and the engines will retun to idle.  I never had this problem before.

Any ideas.  I love this jet.  VRS makes a great product, just wish I could get it flying again.
