For the past year or so I've been unable to download anything from the libraries here.  Doesn't matter whether logged in or not, doesn't matter what file;  I select the file, click the popup "download this file" window, get an ftp window ...and a "505 ... access denied" window.

If given a direct link to a file, such as in a forum post, it will download.

Sounds like something on your system is blocking our files if accessed directly. (Never trust the 'do you trust' - if in doubt google the site to see if any bad feedback. & BTW simviation is 100% OK)

1st try a different browser (Firefox is recommended) - This will identify if your browser has blocked us.

The other things to try is disabling firewall and anti virus just to test the site. This will tell you whether these are causing the block. If so you need to 'allow' simviation

If you still have a problem please get back with as much info as you can. It is not a general problem for users to access simviation or our files.

I use Firefox.  Since posting I have found that if, instead of clicking the download button (which sends me to the ftp site), I right click on that button and opt to send to the download manager, the file will download with no problem.  It's still curious that the ftp site denies me access (I use the "FireFTP" plugin for Firefox, and it works at other ftp sites).

I'm leary of download managers since they're often a source of corrupt files, and many sites block them;  it was only a whim that I tried this.

long, lomg time ago, I used to have that same problem,, way back when,, turned out to be the Security I was using on that computer I had at the time back then,,the way it was configured, once it was fixed accordingly,, the problem went away,, I had overkill set up on the Security. Don't have ahy problems now tho, with this site or any of the other ones so far, knock on wood ! but, it could happen again, hopefully not.

Please do NOT link images, it slows the forums down for other users.

which sends me to the ftp site

This should not be happening.

Are you using www.simviation.com?

We don't use FTP for downloads - but we used to years ago. It is possible you are talking about the old site? If so get off that and use the new site.

Some links go back to the old site still (they are updated as they are found) so if you tell me the file you are trying to download I will give you the correct link to it in the new site

(I also suspect it is something like jetranger said above)
