JSBSim is the flight dynamics program it uses, the same as Flightgear.

Well I watched the videos. Fantastic! Smiley On the strength of them I downloaded the sim & paid $15 to get the Cessna & helo too. Configured them for my Saitek X52. It worked. Amazing.
All I can say is that it's very much in alpha mode. Long way from any use but I have donated $15 to the cause. I will wait some and give them a chance but apart from nice scenery its not up to much yet. Thanks Xpand for pointing the sim out to me. maybe I wont turn my face to the wall just yet  WinkUndecided

You know that buying the alpha version garantees you the full game for free when it comes out?
Sadly I can't buy it myself because my computer doesn't meet the minimal specifications necessary to run the game...

Up is the way to go.

Just to be sure, we are talking about Anteworld, the demo they released, correct?

From what it looks like, you'll be able to walk out of your front door, drive to the airport, fly to a lake somewhere, take a boat and go boating.   Smiley  I wonder if they'll add rail; then we'll have train simulator as well...

If you oldtimers recall Flight Simulator II and IV. It was still 3rd party addon companies that came out with innovative addons. This "Flight" game was never about expanding the boundaries of flightsimulation. It was about trying to grab a market share of the 3rd party developers combined with trying to make an XBOX hit. And to add to their network presence as they tried to do with Bing! , silverlight and Microsoft Live accounts.

Unless MS bought all the top end 3rd party developers and made FS a flagship product (like Office and all it's ancillary software) we will never see any DLC (always overpriced) from MS approaching the quality of PMDG, ActiveSky,  or FlyTampa. Acceleration had the needed patch, but the Hornet and 737 as realistic addons? please.

That said, flight sim won't end. In the next thirty years, there will still be some more advanced flight sim somewhere. maybe some offshoot of prepar3d or XP11. Or if Apple decides to start making games and simulations.

Well if MS thinks it's a good idea to hold onto the FS market (which they basically created and have alot of fans) then they will soon realise their only option is to make FS11.
If not then it's best they just drop it and realise they fumbled massively.

Having become addicted to one of the very earliest versions ..... and being stuck with what we had -- realizing there were people out there making addons exploded my FS experience into what started this site ..

I was thrilled that there were other aircraft (like jets) and new panels to fly in ..... they were all so easy to install .... it made FS more than 10,000 times better ..... & ALL because it was open source and there were people making all this stuff by their own enthusiasm .. it was amazing.

Sure .. some was crap and some didn't work ... but it was the GREAT stuff that kept being available every day or 2 that rose 30,000 feet to make it all fantastic.

Had it been a closed market like Flight is ..  it would have died a death within a year or 2 ... No way would MSFS have worked  ..

Luckily FSX  (&FS2004) has literally unlimited potential. Given computer resources we could be flying around our towns in real time ... potentially .. There are no limits beyond the drive to create ...

(.. as a point ... My main current PC was purchased in 2010 ... FSX runs at all maxed zero problem. No stuttering. & without any tweaking either. My older PC was bought in 2007 .. again FSX running at about 60-70% without any problems ...  I never can see why folk have trouble  -- unless you are trusting those 'securities' from the likes of Windows .. to be running on your system .. -- always do an  Alt Ctrl Del to see what is using your resources .. you may find a few are rubbish and un-needed... )

... and the future really does lie in open source programming ... ALL the greatest innovation comes from that (& yes even Apple uses coding that was developed openly -then they bought it & patented it .. Main reason I use Android over Apple) There will be other open source Flight Sims ... The demand will never go away -- as WE all know ..

Think Global. It's the world we live in.

This cannot be over-stated..

Between what can be built into a model (aircraft and scenery), and/or manipulated in the cfg and air file, and the things that can be accomplished via XML "gauges"..  The innovative horizon is still WAY out there  Smiley

Since they sold off the FSX engine to Lockheed Martin, I wouldn't hold out for an FS11.  If by some chance there was one, it would have to be based on Flight, not FSX.

It was my impression that L/M had picked it up from MS so they could develop their own simulator from it.  If that's mistaken, my bad...

They did & P3D is basically the commercial version of FSX with a bit of tweaking & fixing.
