It's my understanding that MS is going to have you choose which planes you want for MSF?  I know I saw a Mustang, so I'm definitely going for that, if this is the case.  I like that idea.  I never fly the commercial jets, so they're really a waste to have for me.

It seems to me I suggested this same thing about ten years ago back in the day of FS2002 and everybody on the forum pretty much blasted it as being heretical.  I thought it only made sense.  Smiley

When you download Flight for free you get 1 plane & an island to fly around.

Then when you register you get a Stearman. If you want any more add-ons or scenery you have to buy them from Microsoft.

There will be no third-party development which means no downloads on Simv or any other sites.

So Alrot & other developers won't be making any planes for it.

from what I have read and heard, Flight isn't going to be too great. I am hoping everyone is wrong, and flight will make another nice addition to my computer.

But, if not, FSX is still really good!

I'm just going to say this. Flight doesn't seem like it's going to be any good.

I may be wrong but it's better to be pessimistic & be proven wrong that to get your hopes up & be let down.

That is exactly what I am trying to do for myself! It is just that I am REALLY hoping it will be better then what it has made itself to be out so far...

But oh well.. as I have said so far, FSX is still really good, and I am just finally starting to get it to work well on my PC now!

Once again, MS shows it's eternal greed.  Why have third party developers that will compete when you're going to sell the planes yourself.  When I suggested this way back when, that's not quite what I had in mind...

Seriously, if there are no third party add-ons, then forget it.  One of the biggest aspects of FS for me was that you could find almost any plane you wanted and fly it.  I don't see MSF having the equivalent of Simviation's FSX library and I don't feel like waiting and hoping for months or years for them to come out with that one rare plane no-one else has built.  Tell me where I can find a Laird Solution or a Keith Rider Special and I'll sign up right now.  Not everyone is a bus driver and not everyone flies military fighters.

For me, without third party, MSF is useless...   Angry

On Flights Facebook page they had to warn people if they use foul language the posts would be deleted. MS is in some way working on damage control. But listen, the real MCcoy hasn't been released yet, The beta testers know a bit more than most of us, yet they don't know every thing about Flight. We seem to be an angry mob with clubs and torches looking for a beast to slay. My club is in the shop getting polished, until I, personally try Flight. MS will take on so much flack for not including 3rd party developers it is quite possible they will change their tune in the near future.  Cool

PS: Flights Facebook page is archiving previous comments, I think.

If they really want to control sales and still get the most bang for there buck (bang being users  Grin) they SHOULD allow 3rd party developers BUT have added bonuses if you buy from them (like a mission, new character skin, special name color, etc) but they won't, because they dont wanna have a bright future, they ONLY reason MSFS had the long 25 year life span is because of 3RD PARTY. In my words flight simulation is the ability to
✓The ability to fly
X The ability to fly anywhere with the initial purchase
✓ The ability to crash
Undecided The ability to declare emergencies (not sure yet)
✓ The ability to make 3rd Party FREEWARE
So my Pre-Release Ranking would have to be 3.5/5 (7/10) Not too bad, but we haven't even seen the game yet.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Shocked Shocked Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Wink Wink Undecided Undecided Lips Sealed Lips Sealed Tongue Tongue

Registering may or may not involve payment.

It won't include a credit card because all purchases will be done on the Windows Live Marketplace so you will pay with Microsoft Points. Smiley

"Microsoft points"??
WTF is that? Are  "points"  for people who can't admitt that they are paying real money?

So they are making paying for apps for a game into a game in its sellf?

Microsoft points are the currency that we use on Xbox Live to purchase stuff like game add-ons, stuff for our avatars, etc.. but it does involve using your credit card to purchase the points or you can go to places like walmart, gamestop, etc.. and purchase MS points cards.

Xbox/Games for Windows Live accounts are free and don't require MS having a credit card on file.

I think Flight will be more than just an "arcade game". In a lot of ways it is likely to resemble Aerofly, at least initially, in that there will be a restricted flying area and no airliners.

The rest of the Hawaii islands and a Vans RV-6A as well as a Maule M7 can be purchased with MS points.

I fully expect other flying areas to be available for purchase later. No idea whether airliners will become available although I wouldn't be surprised if they, eventually, appear.

Whether Flight will be "good" will be something for you to decide after the release. Considering the large number of people who are already split between FS9. FSX and X-Plane I expect there will be several people who will dislike Flight and several people who will enjoy Flight.

That's the most contrived way of getting people's money I ever heard of.
It's sort of like like money laundering.
Your not buying apps for a game, your only buying pretty little "cards" Wink

Have we now resorted to killing the messenger and calling them "agressive"?  I though this was a discussion for adults.... IMO sugar coating something is akin to hiding one's head in the sand.
BTW, I view calling me "agressive" pretty darn agressive in  its self. Wink

No, it is correct that the reason for points is to make it less like spending money.  It's easier to spend 200 points than it is $50 and if some kid goes to his parents and says I need 500 points for a game and the parent doesn't catch how much money that is, well so much the better for MS.

Just another way MS rips people off... Angry

Are MS point cards now given to gamers as gifts like any other "gift card"? If so, what a business racket is is even though it's legal.
Gamers are spending money at MS even though  they really  had no plans to just because someone gave them a "point card".

I guess I'm a little  old fashioned as I like a company to make (lots of) money by selling a good product but, I'm not so old fasioned that I wiil be suckered into buying "snake oil". Wink

I can't help being reminded of the "The Big Bang Theory" episode where "Sheldon got robbed of a bunch of imaginary things for an imaginary place".
Will there be "hard copies" of the things bought for Flight or, can we suffer Sheldon's fate and have the things bought for Flight somehow be wiped out? Wink
Forgive my ignorance but, I have never been a console gamer and have no experioence with "MS live"

BTW, TBBT is on of my favorite shows... one must maintain a sense of humor.  Grin

Gesshhh, I'll be sticking with FSX Gold acceleration edition, after I decided to drop a few hefty bucks for a really decent video graphics card and upgraded my RAM from 6 GB to 16 GB and I already had a Quadcore processor, I just had to upgrade the POWER SUPPLY for the new Graphics Card to work properly, with all that and the amount of add on's available for FSX from all the vendors out there from scenery to aircraft - FSX Gold Acceleration in my computer works really superb , I'll be keeping it for quite a while ! http://www.youtube.com/user/IFLYWINGS?feature=mhee

Well some people think Microsoft Points are easier to use than a credit card because you don't have to always put in your pin.

But I don’t know why we are even discussing this since it seems MS Flight will be a let down. It might be a little bit of fun in the evening but it won’t have a lasting appeal because it’s not a simulation game it’s an arcade game.

Angry  This may be your opinion even before Flight has been released but it is not a fact. I really wish people would stop making these types of statements as though they were fact.

Once Flight has been released then we can all try it, make up our minds and discuss our views on whether Flight is any good based on a common knowledge.

I have to say, is anyone surprised that the two planes that they are selling at launch were both in FSX? They may have just recompiled them for Flight.

I'm not saying they did but they could have. Shocked

Hawaii, although a big island, is also small I think for any fast movers (fighter planes, etc). I would think (IMO) it's going to end up all props and choppers. Maybe a Lear for island hoping once the island chain expands. Anything bigger or faster than that is going to be alot of "Slew-in" landings (minus say major airports). Probly won't see a 747 offered till they incorporate a major continent to fly to.

If I decide to keep Flight after I try it....I'd like T.C.'s helicopter from Magnum PI....Concidering Grin Grin Grin

I distinctly remember reading an early MS press release that stated Maya was going to be the model tool for Flight.  Maybe that press release was in error, or MS changed their minds.

Ohh what the hell, there's only 12-24  more hours for the release
they knew it before none of (the FS comunity) was even holding and idea that and arcade
game
was going to be create it based on the adventure of flying in the air with propellers airplanes, this is not a simulator at all

and BTW don't you find interesting that No one from MSFT has say anything or mention anything about jets?
this is no a replacement for FSX this was meant for a purpose for sale part on line to make money on line

Jets are complex , this was made for people no really interested in aeronautics ,you don't need special knowledges in Aeronautics like we all do here to play with it (Kids will love it  Kiss )

It will be fun to have it
(I could be wrong about the jets, however lets wait and see if my own suspicious are true)

I have to say, is anyone surprised that the two planes that they are selling at launch were both in FSX? They may have just recompiled them for Flight.

I'm not saying they did but they could have. Shocked

I can tell you that they did not simply recompile them. The screenshots and videos should make it obvious.

Sorry My Mistake ,I mean Kids from 7 to 12  Cool

you know kids that are in other things and no trying to understand the aproach center ,the ATC the Flight plan,to heat the Pitov etc , brainy kids will hate it   Tongue Specially if the come with the idea that this is the replace of MFSX

I think this will be the Out of the complexity of FS , a lot of people don't know how much weight the fuel the flaps ,maybe it will be a boom ,and non FS entusiastic people will also love it ,but c'mon guys we all like to set a damage to the left or right engine ,to loose Hydraulic ,we all like that stuff, but the majority would like to get on a plane and fly just like that

I think it will be a good game for when you’re bored one evening & can't be bothered setting up a flight plan, calculating the fuel & payload & remembering how to start the 737, but I don’t think it will have any lasting appeal.

BTW Alex, Simnetwork hasn’t removed the MD-83, & a few sites still have it on their websites, but the download link directs you to fsdownloads & I got it removed from there. Wink

Since there is only The Big Island" for now, about the only thing any commercial jet would be good for is take-off, turn left, go around, line back up with the runway, do a touch and go, and repeat until utterly bored, then turn right, and repeat until utterly bored again.  Same for small jets.

When the initial "playground" is only about 70 X 70 miles, who needs a jet?

Alex wants the FSND Lufthansa MD-83 Package removed because the person who posted it didn't have permission to & because he uploaded the whole plane rather than just the repaint. Wink

I don't want any body to paid ..
they made a lot of money sailing that magazine without asking me, freeware does not mean that has to be to any one who wants different kinds of redistribution, and earn money at my expenses , I made it clear in the statement in the read me file but seems the word freeware means
Hey I will upload this idiot airplane and said I made it
which it has truly happen , I really hope in the future there will be modelers that are willing to uplaod their work  freeware and  anyone can use the work of  to their own budget or popularity like Ricardo TV or someone name Chavez (coincidence) ,who also made my md83 and 707

and if money its about I rather earn that money for me ,I work the $%t a lot in those airplanes  Tongue

But hey lets get back to the Flight subject back to the topic  Smiley

I seem to recall Alex posting on this forum that PC Pilot magazine had asked his permission to feature one of his aircraft on the cover CD. I forget which one but was this the MD-83? I really can't see the objection. Surely it can only be good for freeware developers as their work can be enjoyed by readers of the magazine who otherwise wouldn't know about it. It's also good publicity for Simviation.

Sorry Doug I asumed that Alex didn't want his MD-83 in that magazine because he doesn't like his models being posted on other sites.

Cheesy ok this part of the forum is for MS "Fraud".."Flight"
no they did not ask me for the md83 neither for the latelys citation x

the ask me two or three times for the 727 and the first CItation x for fs9. again this is about money for them ,that doesn't help me ,THAT helps them

I rather people to download the models through my website or simviation

It's a sorry state of affairs when a person will upload another's work and claim it for their own.  Do they really think no one will ever notice and since they're getting no monetary gain out of it, what is the use?  It speaks volumes about that person's level of self esteem...  Tongue
