Over the past few years, I have come across many a topics of people complaining about freeware files. The latest one, being a designer so insulted that he refuses to share hes hard work to anyone anymore. Just because a few people think they are "owed" a perfectly functioning plane, without having to tweak this or that. Even though 99% of the time, it is the users fault, because they installed it incorrectly.

People have got to realize that freeware designers spend many of hours, weeks, months, and even years into developing an aircraft. Then for somebody to complain about it. Its worse then being slapped in the face IMHO.

I have never designed any aircraft, but have made some very simple textures, and even they took a good day to perfect.

I wish more people went by the philosophy of "if you don't have anything good to say, then don't bother saying anything" because negativity never helps anyone. (or anything)

Not that I think this rant will solve anything, but it just erks me that a few a**holes can screw up somthing so good for everyone else that respects such work. Because without people dedicating months of unpaid work, flight simulation wouldn't be a fraction of what it is today.

I hope that designers don't get too bummed out when others have high expectations on their *free* work, because it really is a shame that anyone could have thoughts like that.

So for all the designers out there, both freeware, and payware, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the hard work that you have put in. I can't speak for others, but you have given me an experience that I could have only have dreamed of having. But because of your hard work, it is a reality. So again, Thank you!

Keep up the great work!

Michael B.

To Be FREEWARE Designer has its disadvantage of all types ,that is one of the less important,One person's opinion does not make difference  ,does not count..

I'm going to put myself as and example ,but this its the same story over and over with my fellows modelers and designers all

,I also feel that, why work so hard, for so long, then you see any one  uploading My airplanes, to their sites? and charge if you want to download it,  you have to paid some kind of registration, so our free works to the benefit of other

second and the latest one ,people uploading airplanes claiming they did them
I just had and almost flight with the place Flightsim.com because they had my MD-83 made by some one name Chavez (I hate this name)
Fortunately as Simviation , Flightsim.com its a serious and honest place ,in couple hours they delete after I send them and email ...

How many other place smaller have another designers work in this condition?

How about if I made them, PAYWARE ,I would be more protected ,that's why the owner of FSplanet told me
If its a freeware
you don't have any rights
when can take your airplanes and do as we want to do with them

as I said I don't know how many other sites has some of my models with different designer ,and that's our only reward ..to said I did this model

HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE

any of those sites when and FS enthusiast see Example: Tom Ruth 727 and you see it said 727 made by John Doe ,THATs how you and every one in this community of freeware can help ,by send them a email to the webmaster or contact the site and make them aware of that  ,not to bother the original and real designer, and tell the webmaster Hey ! Mr whatever you have this airplane made by  Tom Ruth and seems some one its claiming the contrary ,you have a pirate or a hack plane in your library.

Its hard to make and aircraft, but its worse to also become like a police of your own creation ,to b looking who has your work, who has hijacked your work, etc.all over the internet

Freeware need only one thing THE ACKNOWLEDGE OF THE PEOPLE and cooperation, to keep doing IT

I have a Opensky or Posky 777 that doesn't even said so anywhere, just because little John Doe make a repaint doesn't giove him the right to delete the original read me files and upload the whole airplane claiming its his .Who would want to make andother design like this?

I hope you can understand me

Alex

This is somthing that didn't even occur to me when I posted what I did. I could see this being extremely fusterating. After spending a zillion hours on somthing, then to see it on another site with another name on it.

Is there any way to embed your name within the model? like a serial number on a engine? As I said before, I have never produced any aircraft. All I have worked on is simple textures. I think there is a way to embed a name within a bmp image, as it would be hardcoded within the image data. Isn't the same possible with GMAX models?

But even with a signature of authenticity within the coding, not many people would look there.

How do you deal with that kind of thing? It is really sad to know that there are so many bad people out there that do that sort of thing. I couldn't imagine pulling a stunt like that. I wouldn't even modify a aircraft, and re-upload it without the original designers written permission.

But I believe people that do things like that will have their time coming. As the old saying goes, "what goes around, comes around." I am a firm believer of karma. Not that it helps at the exact time of the crime, but it will catch up to them at some point!

I really hope as a designer, that yous' don't let that kind of thing get to you. Because, remember, no matter who's name it is under, we are enjoying your creation!

And, personally, if you stopped creating the amazing vehicles that you have been making, I would really miss them! (I am sure many other people would miss them as well)

But I will keep in mind what you said, and if I see anything familiar, with an unfamiliar name attached, I will be sure to make it known, in case it happens to be an ill-named forgery.

your fustration is understandable. However I do belief that whether its pay or freeware, your rights are unaffected so the above statement is not correct. Copyright generally does not rely on payment or costs but is assumed to be granted automativcally to the creator at the moment of creation. A very clear statement in the readme installation instructions and the posting notes should make this clear. Enforcing this however is a different issue and will be difficult with both pay and freeware as the potential cost of any action will always outweigh the benefits. maybe it would be a good thing if simviation published a list of sites which have demonstrably placed pirated designs. then at least the names wil be out there.

I mean , payware is more in a legal way protected ,One thing its to take Kirk Olson f-16 or Posky 777 and re upload it as John Doe new f-16,and 777 maybe no one will even notice and no one will care..its a freeware ....its something like (If I didn't paid for it ,its something that have no importance)

Is like people think If they paid for it ,its more special ..

On the contrary from what I said before a very different thing  would be to take a the PMDG 747 model or Eaglesoft Citation X and upload it as the new freeware without a single remains of the read me files   ,many would jump and will SCREAM hey that's the payware PMDG that's Eaglesoft you are incouraging in a violation I bet that PMDG or Eaglesoft  people wouldn't even notice before the same community people will defend the payware  and it would be remove and ban the one who upload this

how ever for the freeware developers we have no the same resourses that this companies has ,and we have to go every time sending webmaster emails hey you have my airplane made by another guy sometimes they hear you sometimes they ignore you  <--I made this one and my name isn't ricardo tv

this has nothing to do with quality ,I think PMDG has the greatest paywares ,and so Eaglesoft ,but just because something its free doesn't mean that has to be a bad quality airplane ,Trust me I,ve seen pretty bad shapes aircraft as a payware ,and I,ve seen freewares that its hard to believe they are free ,This is when the following expression takes place Payware quality in a freeware model ...unbelievable discrimination against freewares!!

Its great to download a great freeware, I do it myself  , to make a video of it and uplaod to youtube , to enjoy the work of another person ,but users also should be a little bit more gratitude, the only reward we got is that ,many of those who uploads videos ,mention everything except the one who made the airplane while if it was a payware that would be the first thing they will say
NEW PMDG 737-800
<--this people already has for the job  a good reward ,..money for it

as a modeler I turn to appreciate maybe more than the average FS enthusiast people because I know how hard they are to make them ,it looks very easy to make and airplane ,trust me its is not  ,every gauge ,to write ,fail test reload aircraft test over and over to make a single clock ,to paint ,to shape , days hours sometimkes you loose the sense of time ,I really enjoy this but its hard the eyes ,the butt in the chair ..its hard

I just recieved the worst comment ever... and it wasn't really against me.
Someone posted this on my SF-37A Aurora video:
"FSX freeware, ,who the fuck cares! get a job and buy real payware aircraft fro fsx! "

What is going on with people? I mean, it's like before everyone supported freeware, even if they thought that it was really bad (like my early models) and now I only see this type of hate torwards freeware developers!

Up is the way to go.

I look at it this way.....Those that can, do. While those that can't, insult.

And those types have their pictures prominently displayed as an illustration for LOSER in the dictionary.

Of course not all of their pics are there simply due to the fact that they have never ventured out of their parent's basements long enough to even aspire to amount to more than a skidmark on the underwear of life.

Y'all keep up the awesomely good work!   PLEASE!!!
