Joe Paterno, 85, dies in State College

...

Quote:
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Joe Paterno, the longtime Penn State coach who won more games than anyone in major college football but was fired amid a child sex abuse scandal that scarred his reputation for winning with integrity, died Sunday of lung cancer. He was 85 ...

Paterno built his program on the credo "Success with Honor," and he found both. The man known as "JoePa" won 409 games and took the Nittany Lions to 37 bowl games and two national championships. More than 250 of the players he coached went on to the NFL.

"He will go down as the greatest football coach in the history of the game," Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said after his former team, the Florida Gators, beat Penn State 37-24 in the 2011 Outback Bowl ...

Rest in peace, JoePa.

Paterno's wife to receive $13.4 million pension from Penn State

Quote:
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Joe Paterno earned a state pension of $13.4 million for his 61-year coaching career at Penn State.

Paterno's family announced Tuesday through a spokesman that Paterno's widow, Sue, would receive an initial payment of $10.1 million by the end of May, with the rest to be paid out over the next two years.

The family says calculations were made through the standard formula for anyone in the State Employees' Retirement System. Paterno never accessed his pension.

Family spokesman Dan McGinn says the Paternos will also donate $1.5 million to Penn State-related or State College-area charities.
