..of course I will.... Kiss...!

I buy/get all sorts of Stuff!.. Grin..!

I've bought all the Flight Sims since FS '98, (including FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004, and FSX), and I still have + use them all, so adding "Flight" to my collection will be nothing unusual!

+1 Cool

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Getting the free Flight download when it's released to try it out is a no-brainer. Beyond that we really need more details. Which downloads, including scenery areas,  will be available at launch and how much will they cost?

What controllers did they have available? I've seen videos from CES and the planes are being controlled with XBox controllers or a mouse, so physics aren't really easy to judge, I would imagine. While I won't go into details, I will say that my experience has been far improved flight dynamics over FSX.  Wink Possibly the realism settings were turned down?

Thinking a bit more more about the Poll, and my reply; "cant wait to get it", I suppose that, as the main program is free to run anyway, there is nothing to be lost by downloading it, and trying it out!

It finally comes down to; are we prepared to pay for any/all of the "additions" to improve it/expand it?

I'm eager to try it out in the first place...for free!.. Wink...!

Paul... Cool...!

It would be unusual for any FS enthusiast NOT to at least try it out ...

Like Fozzer says, it's from there that the question should be asked .. and until the users experience it - how can they know whether they will want to pay for more or not?

This question needs to be asked after release - and -  'Will you pay for more?'

"Maybe" came the closest for my choice, not because I haven't decided, since I will most likely download it, but as to continuing to download new additions, that depends on how I like the freebie.  Anything past that depends on how much MS is going to charge for scenery and aircraft addons, and the aircraft addons available. Though I'm sure they will eventually offer some high performance military aircraft, I doubt seriously they will offer something like a Battlstar Galactica Viper, or a Buck Rogers Thunderfighter, any time soon.

I will naturally download it, mainly from curiosity to see how well it runs on my low-end system.

None of the poll categories apply to me. I can wait for as long as it takes. I can't get excited about flying around Hawaii however pretty it looks. I've never paid for an addon yet & can't see that changing.

I could be wrong but I see this as an ongoing project. I don't anticipate the whole World or a large selection of aircraft being available for download on the release date. That could take months or even years.

I've no doubt that if "Flight" was to appear in my local Game Store as a full, boxed version of the Sim, the same as the previous boxed versions of the MS Flight simulators, and at a similar price, I would be the first to throw money at it...
...if only just for the experience of trying it out, and comparing it to my other Flight Sims...

I will install it. See whether I can mess with the files a bit and put MS Flight aircraft, effects, and gauges into FSX. Do a few missions.

But I don't intend on keeping it long unless the quality of expansions are high or if they don't allow 3rd party development.

Yup, no box, and the only source for aircraft and scenery is going to be through MS.  Of course, this does beg the question: How is MS going to decide what addon aircraft to develop?  Do users get to submit a "wish list"?  Can users submit a petition?

I can remember the "petition" at the start of FSX...

...and look what happened to that!

The Aces Team appeared to take notice of some of the Simmers daft requests for the "impossible", which finally made the program mostly unplayable for most of the Simmers!

I would hope that the Flight designers will take more care with the coding this time, (I leave it to them. We tend to come up with stupid requests!), to make it playable + enjoyable for the majority of Simmers/Gamers... Smiley...!

If I understood it correctly the original idea was to have Approved Developers who will pay Microsoft for the privilege of creating their own addons. Providing they pass some sort of quality testing these 3rd party addons would then be available for download only via the Window Live! marketplace. I don't know how practical this will be or how many existing FS developers will apply for approval.

another thing to wonder about:how big are the areas?
if its whole countries and continents then this might actualy be cheaper.
eg:

whole of north america=10 euro(large+detailed scenery...)
whole of europe=6 euro(same but smaller+bit less scenery)
whole of hawaii=9 euro(in total (EXTREMELY detailed scenery.)

and i don't think there is many other places most people would fly in exept australia.

or if you DO want to buy addons:give yourself a budget similar to the price of FSX.

i am downloading it but not buying anything. Wink
no i am not promoting it or have been hacked. Grin

As with everything about Flight, that is quite contraversial...

It would mean a lot fewer planes, but the few planes we do get would be of higher quality. More of less versus less of more.

Surely they could charge for the plane on the marketplace, so the developer would be paid for their efforts. I believe XNA developers had to pay to sell their game on LIVE, but then they could charge for their game to be downloaded.

Time will tell.

I think microsoft is gonna pull another apple and make it like the app store where you make it and microsoft will have to approve it, and if any price on it they will get like 20% or something like that...but thats just what i think Undecided Undecided Undecided

I'm not going to bother with Flight for several years, if ever. Not after all of the time, effort, resources, pain and suffering I (we) went through to get FSX to finally work. I probably sunk $1,500 in programs alone, not to mention, the seven computers I went through before I found one that would run FSX. I think I'm set for quite awhile... I might think about Flight III, or whatever they're going to call it in 2022.

why did you spend that much on a computer that runs FSX?
we spent 300-500(don't know anymore) on the computer, the rest is all freeware...
well,ok,i run it at 5-10 FPS but there isn't much visual difference between 8 and 30 fps IMHO...

A bit off the topic but the human eye is only capable of computing about 26 frames per second. A dogs eyes can run at nearly twice that rate, making them more capable at catching a ball than we are~
More to the subject, FSX cost me more than 3 grand if I add it all up from day one, partially because I didn't know what I was doing. Now FSX is still costing me money because I think I know what I'm doing.   Cool

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

I think the maximum fps for fsx is 96 if you run it like that, STOP playing video games and continue designing that space ship Cheesy

why did you spend that much on a computer that runs FSX?
we spent 300-500(don't know anymore) on the computer, the rest is all freeware...
well,ok,i run it at 5-10 FPS but there isn't much visual difference between 8 and 30 fps IMHO...

Well, I'll readily admit that I'm more hard-nosed and aggressive than most folks, that being said...

In general, they just didn't have the "horsepower" to make a nice, smooth take off and landing (even with a trike). I'm a veteran of over 80 re/installs with FSX/Acceleration. I went through the first 3 computers when SP1 was being worked on (we didn't know that at the time). I had #4 when SP2 was being worked on (we didn't know that at the time either). I still couldn't take off and land a Skyhawk without studdering, freezing and crashing with #5. #6 is now my back up, it is real good, it is an i7 920, 12Gs and 1G vid card with limited cooling. Now I have an i7 985, 16Gs and 2G vid card with eight fans and intercooler. With this computer I can take off, "fly" and land a small twin engine without a problem - all smooth, all the time, no crashes because of over-heating, running out memory etc. Basically, no excuses.

On the program side: I bought FSX on the release date for $80. I also bought Acceleration on it's release date for $60. Then UTX US&CAN, GEX NA, FEX, MTX, Traffic X, AFX, Heli-Traffic 2009, IS2, were about $40 a pop, REX was $80. So that's about $420. Over time I have purchased about 25-30 payware aircraft at an average of $30 a pop (quick math, jeez) $800-$900. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff like a registered version of FSUIPC to run some hardware - oh yeah, hardware, I have some Saitek and GoFlight stuff too.

And yeah, I write and edit my own AI traffic plans which I use along with freeware packages, I use some freeware sceneries and overhaul some of my local airports too.... I'd say I have invested a little bit into FSX.

Oh, I almost forgot, I enjoy "flying" all of my aircraft while checking out the nice scenery too!  Grin

MS has demonstrated how blatenly greedy they are releasing  just the first  installment free and then,  making people purchase unending  installments for it they want  a real flight sim in the classic sense.

What may work for rail sims for that unique situation. wiil not fly with a flight sim for anyone  but a casual gamer!
I personally,  would be willing to pay a premium price  for a word wide sim but I refuse to purchase one piece meal as if I'm  ordeing a dinner ala carte at a restaurant!

So, I am  through with MS flight sim forever!
Time to move on!!
In the end, it's only a computer game!

I just spent a small fortune on scenery for FSX, but do not regret it. If Flight proves itself to be on the hardcore side I will spend the bucks. If it continues to be a token collector, spend it on FSX and Prepar 3D version 2.

If I can buy scenery for the whole world and also a descent number of aircraft for $100 or less, I'll go for it.

Like I said, I don't mind spending a premium price for a good,  world wide sim.
Personally,  I would not mind spending say, $200 for a good world wide sim.

However one can bet the ranch that it will be far over $200 for flight for wold wide coverage with a few aircrafft. So far, one could  not  even see $200.
Their game plan is to milk it for all it's worth and it has obviously been the plan from squate one.

On must think like an account . If that model  can work with a rail sim, let's do the same for those flight sim  suckers..... they  are so hungry for a new sim, that  they will buy anyrhing we give them.
Let's  also ban third party  add-ons so we can grab  all the gold from those suckers!
They fail to realize that while one can not leave the rails and modeling a single RR or just a few RRs  makes sense. However, we can fly anwhere in the word once airborn. Will we be like Jim Carrey  in "The Truman Show" with flight??   Wink

MS evdently did not  learn their lesson with Vista!  The geneal public is not that stupid. I hope the flight sim public is not that stupid also!

BTW, anyone who does not think the accountants are in  charge is  extremely naive IMO.

Whoever is in charge, they  listen to the accountants.  After all, they pay them for their expertise in maximizing profit (not for advise about marketing  a good product) and  making money is the sole reason for MSFS!

BTW......
I have be searching the gaming sites and none evnen reference "Flight" and it certainly is not an anticipated title in the gaming comunity.

Add to this the mixed feelings about it with the sim comunity, it would seem that MS has misread thier markets to the extreme.

I'm reminded of the old Chevy "El Camino".  While it now has value as custom/classic vehicle, it was a failure  when released as it was not quite a car or a truck and did not excell at either.
I suspect that Flight will suffer the same fate as it it will have no wide spread aproval from, either camp.

I do hold out some hope though that when it does flop as a comercial product, MS will offer a complete (world wide) sim to the simming comunity at a premium price  but,  heavily discounted over the piece meal price.

Bottom line, I do no want a Hawaiian flying game. I want a complete world wide flight sim and, we should all relate that sentiment to MS!!

I seems to me that MS has also lost site of the fact that the gaming comunity has largely abandioned their gaming computers in favor of  gaming consoles. What does MS expect them to run Flight on?

I am deeply disappionted that MS Flight is not going to be released as a CD-ROM edition and that it has to be downloaded only  that too in bits pieces. Surely my anxious wait for MS Flight for months together is dieing down, slowly. Will I download the free Trial version ? Well I dont know yet.

In my humble and not revealing anything opinion ,I think this software did not came to replace FSX its another alternative ,its a quite different thing than FSX,
THE PROBLEM WAS THAT EVERY ONE THOUGHT THIS Flight CAME TO REPLACE FSX

and FSX will live until the hell froze Smiley muah ha haaa!

and why not? It will be free download of course I'll get it as soon they release it ,as long doesn't mess up with my FS10  Cool

Alex

I have a question now..Where does that thing about that the Flight SDK will be in Maya? that the new SDK will be improve because that was and obsolete code ..where do you and how can you assure things like that ? So many post at the beginning ,base on what? why people do this kind of things?

It's free, of course I'll download it.  ...I just don't anticipate playing it for very long or buying any of the DLC.  FSX is my main sim regardless of how fun Flight winds up being.
