I was just painting aircraft as usual when at one point this idea popped into my head.  At first i thought it was nonsense, but then I stopped and thought it over and decided it might actually be a worth while suggestion.

Why don't we create a seperate creation contests for things like aircraft, scenery, repainting, panel etc. designing?
It could help interest some new designers, and further encourage/entertain current ones.  It could also help to bring tons more uploads to Simviation.

It could be run like the screenshot contest, only you upload it to Simviation and have the judge(s) examine it, leaving a little note in the topic with a link to the download so they know what's being entered.

I just thought it would be an interesting and fun new thing to try if possible. Smiley

THIS THIS THIS!! A million times this!
Though aircraft designing should be limited to drawing or simple 3D models since it takes a long time to make a fully functional model for FS...
But I like the repainting idea...

Up is the way to go.

Sweet! Smiley  I knew I would get some people. Grin

And yes, I was thinking that the biggies like aircraft or scenery could use a big time extension from the month given by the contests, along with being able to use your previous creations.

Yeah, that would be interesting.
I'll just have to watch cause I'm pretty terrible at all Cheesy

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

That’s a really good idea Club. Though I agree with Xpand that a/c design should be limited to a drawing or a simple 3d model. Also scenery should be limited to a plan or a quick model. Wink

I like this!
The repainting contest sounds like a great idea to get people interested!
The others require too much effort to make them a contest IMHO.
It could be something like each month a theme, aircraft, or scheme is chosen for everyone to do.

Well, I didn't get any yes or no from the moderators/administrators on this, so I went ahead and made a repaint competition for February since so many people seemed to like the idea.  It's in the Aircraft Repainting board for any of you who want to enter.

If any of you moderators/administrators have issues with it, please let me know and take it down.

How?  The voting's going to be done like the main screenshot competiton.  The members will be the ones voting, not me deciding.  It's stated in the rules.
And also, it goes to voting so long as the entry follows all the rules.  I won't take out any because I don't like them or to limit them to the very best, because that would be my opinion, and everyone else may think the exact opposite, and it gives everyone the full, balanced field to vote on.  And also, if there's something really good or really bad that I missed, the voters may catch it.
The only advantage I get is about a 1/2 hour extra planning time.  I going to make sure to make up the new topic on the hour right before I go to bed before the next month, and I pick the topic on something based from the month.  Februaury, month of love with Valentine's day, day of love.  Many people love the J-3 Cub.  Therefore, put the two loves together, month of love, J-3 Cub.  I'm insane but tactical. Cheesy

And besides, it gives me something to do. Cheesy

Club I think I know why Jetprop doesn't want you to enter. It's because you do good repaints.

Also will the winners be picked by what paint looks nice or by the quality of the paint?

And I have an idea about the next contest. Instead of picking a specific plane why not pick a type of plane like "Light Twin" & people repaint light twins like the Baron.

P.S. we are about the same age. Smiley

Thanks! Smiley  But am I really that good?  I always think I'm around average. Cheesy
And it's pretty much both. the voter would end up deciding for themselves anyway, no matter what I said. Cheesy
And also, I haven't looked up what it will be yet, and like I said, I'm not going to look up until it's time. Cheesy
