Hey guys.
I've done a repaint and when I select it in the FS it crashes for some unapparent reason. I've had a look at all 70 pages in the aircraft painting forum and all suggestions have tried and failed.

Ok here's the lowdown. I'm an absolute noob at painting and I wanted to do a posky 777 since I couldn't a PAL texture that would work, so I followed a video from youtube posted by flightsimy called "(HQ) how to repiant aircrafts for flightsim [part1]"

I followed it up to the point where he finishes the actual paint. At which point I open the files in DXTBmp, do the alphas, uncheck mipmaps and save as DXT3 but I have tried saving them as Extended 32 bit 888-8. I put them into a texture folder in a pre-existing posky 777 file and changed the aircraft.cfg (the default is the Qatar):

[fltsim.0]

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this sorted?

If you need any more info, just ask Smiley

Thanks in advance

I don't know for sure, but here's my suggestions:

1. Make the texture files only lowercase on both the folder names and cfg.
2. Don't put anything for the atc_airline one.
3.either get rid of or leave blank the at_parking_codes line.
4. Change the visual damge to 0 instead of 1.
5.  Make sure you have all the neccesary texture files like bumpmaps and all if you're making it as a new aircraft.
6. Change the 0 and 1 in [flightsim.] to the next available number instead of 0 and 1 if there are other paints.

Good luck getting it fixed!

don't bother, .cfg files and folder names are not case sensitive.

2. Don't put anything for the atc_airline one.
3.either get rid of or leave blank the at_parking_codes line.
Neither of these have anything to do with textures.

4. Change the visual damge to 0 instead of 1.
This only matters if you crash the plane, not the sim. And then only if the developer included a crash .mdl

5.  Make sure you have all the neccesary texture files like bumpmaps and all if you're making it as a new aircraft.
From the looks of the .cfg file this plane is for FS9 so there are no bumpmaps. Missing textures will not crash the sim, just display the plane without textures.

6. Change the 0 and 1 in [flightsim.] to the next available number instead of 0 and 1 if there are other paints.
The OP says the Qatar livery is the default one, so...

Good luck getting it fixed!

None of that will fix a crashing sim.

Make a backup copy of the Qatar texture folder, then move your textures into the Qatar folder one at a time, then test.

By using your textures in a working texture folder you will know which one is causing the crash.

It is most likely a texture format issue.

cheers,
Joe

Sorry, I have both and repaint for both, so I get a bit confused.  And I've never seen some of the lines in those so I was thinking it confused the program and caused it to "crash".

And by the way, would you mind giving me a more specific explanation than crash?  Do you mean the textures don't show?  An error message that pops up saying its not compatible?  FS fails out and stops responding?

Well its taken some time but I've got results...
The textures only work when they are placed in the original posky texture folder.
But thanks for the help guys  Smiley
