I can create both FS2004 and FSX textures.
    Just so you know, in FS2004 I'm able to create textures that glow like neon at night, but only on some aircraft!

    Hey guys. (and girls).  I just noticed that the three aircreaft repaints I uploaded to Simviation one or two days ago aren't on the website for download.  If anyone knows why that's going on please let me know.

Files have to be approved by an admin before they are added. This can take one or two days.  Wink If a reason has been found that they think the files shouldn't be uploaded, then I'd think you'd be notified if you included your email address.

[quote author=Club508 link=1307915546/1#1 date=1307916488]    I only know how to do FS2004 textures.  For some reason, when I first tried installing a FSX texture I made for myself it was transparent (except for the windows and propellor), when I found some advice online, to restart the computor, (I don't know if this is better or worse), it made the textures translucent, and it made the textures randomly distributed on the plane and added an elevator rotated 90 degrees sticking off the side of the body of the aircraft!!!

    If anyone is willing to tell me how to fix that, I'll happily start making FSX textures as well!

I am not sure whether this is going to come out for it is the first time I post in this forum, I am used to SOH fori...
Here it goes: I assume you are repainting an aircraft for which you have a full set of original textures...  if so, then all you have to do is change your new repaint textures for the original ones... it the aircraft is basically the same... you don't have to do the bumps... etc.  just redo the texture files that need to be replaced.. it is just that easy... i.e: it is just the same you do with layers... you change the layers you want to change and leave others such as logos, rivets, etc.  intact... and voila' you have a repainted aircraft...

Hi,

I think you need to get a few things fixed. Smiley

The textures were B&W .. there was no thumbnail and the aircraft.conf was wrong - which would mess up anyone's 747 if they added it.

So:

1. Please test your repaint
2. Include an aircraft.conf edit with just the element that applies to your textures

--e.g.
[fltsim.x]
title=Boeing 747-400
sim=Boeing747-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=Boeing747-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing747-400_ref
atc_id=N747
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=1123
atc_heavy=1
atc_parking_types=CARGO
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="747-400"
ui_variation="DHL Cargo"
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
description="More than 30 years ago, the 747 made its first trip from New York to London.  Since then, it's become the standard by which other large passenger jets are judged. Its size, range, speed and capacity were then, and are now, the best in its class."

Include a thumbnail inside the textures folder for FSX.

Also - we like to try to keep things fairly professional here and this image was included in your repaint as a preview

If you read the readme, that was an example I made to show how simple the drawing in the request could be.  The actual aircraft textures were in the texture folder, the image that ends with _T.

By the way, the way I upload my textures is change one of the sections in the aircraft.cfg file to make the aircraft selection menu say like instead of maybe for variation, instead of "World Travel", say "AER LINGUS", like I did in my Boeing 747-400 AER LINGUS texture (which looked nothing like the basic sketch image).

One minor but very important thing that I forgot to point out.... sorry... "my bad"...  I just did a repaint and it showed up all black...(not textures... lol)...  Just as with CFS2 and 3... and FS 2000, 2004, etc.  *** very important**  IF YOU DO THE REPAINT IN 8 BIT COLOR... THE SIMULATOR WON'T SHOW IT... YOU NEED TO REDUCE TO 256 COLORS!!!  AND THEN IT SHOWS...  I routinely do it with PSP and forgot to mention it...  it should work the same with Photoshop... (I sometimes use it)...  you really do not lose much fidelity at all... my repaints look the same in the end...  :-/ :'( ::)

The way I make the textures is that did all the stuff I mentioned is:
Step 1: Make copy of the files ending in _T or _t
Step 2: Open the copy in DXTBMP and save them as 24 bit windows bipmap so my image creator can open it.
Step 3: Repaint the aircraft. (I don't use layers)
Step 4: Copy the image and then paste into Paint.NET so the image and save it as a bitmap.  (The image creator I use can't save a image you create.)
Step 5: Open the image in DXTBMP and save them as Direct Draw Surface DXT5 (aka: DDS DXT5)
Step 6: Make a copy of the entire texture of the aircraft I'm repainting.
Step 7: Delete the files ending in _T or _t in the new texture folder and replace them with the ones I made that have the exact same names as the ones deleted.
Step 8: Copy the aircraft.cfg file.
Step 9: Replace the text in quotation marks next to ui_variation to what I want it to say for the variation in the aircraft selection menu.
Step 10: Save and replace the original aircraft.cfg file with the new one.
Step 11: Test in FSX

I think you're a tad confused gaucho. 8-bit is the same as 256 colours. The FS2004 default textures are Extended 16-bit. When converted with DXTBmp graphics editors like PSP will display them as 24-bit. (16 million colours).

I think Cub508 needs to learn more about repainting aircraft before uploading any more.

In FS2004, my textures AWLWAYS work for me when I test them.
In FSX...   well...   that's where I run into problems.
So I don't need work with FS2004 Hagar, just FSX.

The principle is exactly the same in FSX.

By the way you guys, (and girls), I'm currently working on creating some glowing textures for the default FS2004 Boeing 737-400.  They glow at night when you turn the landing lights on. They should only take me about ten more minutes to complete all the conversions and I'm making this one a download you can just install into the aircraft folder on it's own so you don't have to move the aircraft.cfg and texture folders around.  If one of you is willing to give me your email address I can go ahead and send it to you as an attachment so you don't have to wait the 1 or 2 days for it to be checked by Simviation for upload.
