There are several out there like Aerocrate and Flanders Fields, but let me refer you to the third important topic at the top of this forum page.  That thread has been going for years.  Some of the links are now dead, but most are still active.  Wink

AND every flightsim site has some very nice WWI downloads, including SimV.   All you have to do is look.   A quick hint....search SimV for P J Walker, or just use this link:  Smiley

Here's my CFS2 thread at the Few Good Men featuring mostly downloaded kites (I'm PoorOldSpike), I've downloaded a pretty good WW1/WW2 assortment from various sites as you can see-

http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/showthread.php?4270-CFS2-(Microsoft-s-C...)

Quite often you'll find you don't like a machine because it doesn't fly as well as you'd hoped, or else its graphics are not so hot etc, but usually you'll find another one to replace it.

You can pick up 2 versions of HMS Furious for WW1 carrier ops here-

http://www.simviation.com/lair/cfs2shipyard.htm

Be warned, landing can be accomplished but is difficult and you need a plane with a hook, though this can be arrange by adding some details to one of the doc thingies..dodah's...whatsits.

Really good info...until the 'doc thingies..dodah's...whatsits' part.   Huh   That's how Ms Ginger would describe it.  Grin

Do you really mean that by adding a tailhook entry to  the aircraft's CFG file you can use the arrester wires?  Or are you just messin' with the troops?  Roll Eyes

What do you mean by 'everyone of those planes'?   Which planes?  Undecided

When do they CTD?  Huh

Folks, we really do need to start being a bit specific here....we're not mind readers.  Wink

One thing is for sure....if every one of anything that is supposed to work fails, it's because you did something wrong, or failed to do something at all.  Cry

If you are talking about P.J. Walker's planes at SimV, I've flown them all...no problems.  Wink

sorry about that tango i was in a hurry.

all of the WWI planes on the page you suggested.
http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=P+J+Walker&x=20&y=10

all of PJ's planes.

Now they crash when i'm in the freeflight menu, picking the plane that i want to fly. as soon the the image goes to load up the game goes to desk top.

all of the aerocrate planes work fine so i'm not sure what the issue is. more than likely its my computer freaking out about something or another.

kinda how it doesn't like the 1024x768 panels but will run the 800x600.

i checked the sound files and i checked/changed the panels. even with the sound aliased to the zero it still happens.

i'll flip thourgh the common problems post and see if i can find any answers.

ok it seems that this might not be a common problem. i'm wondering if its simular to the one you mentioned before. that line in the MDL i think it was. maybe not. its odd cuz i ran the airmanager and it didn't list any problems. could be my graphics card (or lack of a real one, stupid intergraded grapics) outside of that i'm not sure. so i'll wait for your reply tango.

Well I just downloaded the PJ Walker Morane Bullet and it wouldn't work, it didn't crash to desktop but in free flight the bullet stream was invisible, and Mission Builder kept freezing when I tried putting the Morane in there.
But then I downloaded the DP upgrade pack to replace the Moranes old files and it works like a dream in Free flight and in Mission Builder, here it is shooting a wing off an LVG 5 minutes ago, so I suppose replacing the files for the other 7 PJW aircraft should work too..Smiley

Boxman did what I was going to ask you to check.   PJ's DPs were a bit out of whack, but the upgrades straightened them out.   I'm fresh out of ideas for you.   My versions of the planes work fine, but they do have updated DPs.  Undecided

Incidentally there were two files (circled) that I had to let overwrite the old ones to get the Morane working.

...

PS- and the instructions say-
"just pop these DP files into the appropriate aircraft folder (the camel DP file is used for both versions; Sopwith_camel_110hp and Sopwith_Camel_148aero). make sure you delete the CDP file in each airplane folder or overwrite with the provided CDP files.
This will correct the [MISC_DATA] section in the Dp file from Imperial units into metric making the DP more realistic for the mission builder.
pjwalke@live.com
thanks to Tom Sanford for bringing it to my attention.
Also the is a correction for the Sopwith_Camel_110hp version.1 aircraft file, to allow the prop to animate properly."

PS AGAIN- But hey, if a plane won't work, do what I do as a last resort and simply download another one from somewhere else..Smiley

I suppose it's OK to include the CDP files in a download with the DP, but it is totally unnecessary.  The CDP file is created by the sim from the DP when the sim boots (if no CDP is present), therefore the procedure is to allow the new DP to overwrite the old one and then to delete the existing CDP.  If the old CDP is not deleted, the new DP will not take effect.  If you look at your folder again after the sim has run once, you will see that a new CDP has been created from the new DP.  Wink

I've been following this topic & decided to check things out for myself. I downloaded the Albatross_DIII version.1 from TR's link. It installed straight 'out of the box' & works fine in Free Flight & QC. I didn't try the updated DP files.

I don't know if all PJ Walker's aircraft are like this but I noticed it has no 2D panel, just the DVC. The Background BMP defined in Panel.cfg is missing & I get a black band at the bottom of the screen in 2D cockpit view. I'm wondering if this might be causing your problem.

I don't have time to install for a full analysis; I downloaded the Pfalz; the aircraft's default folder name is Pfalz_DIIIa_Jasta5 while the aircraft.cfg refers to Pfalz_DIII. For use in combat missions, the aircraft.cfg's "sim=" should be the same as the name of the aircraft's folder.
In this case, either change the folder name to Pfalz_DIII or the reference to sim=Pfalz_DIIIa_Jasta5 -- one or the other, not both.
Similar name consistency with aircraft.cfgs and aircraft folders should be applied to all aircraft.

Hmmmm. If what you say is correct none of the Fox Four Korea aircraft would work in missions. I can assure you they all do.

you Hagar you might be on to something. now question, would useing a different panel make a differance or is that part of the MDL? I realy believe its a graphics issue with my computer. this stupid intergrated graphics is junk. when i can afford it i'll get a new one. but in the meantime i'll try to narrow it down.

i have to reinstall the game. some how i managed to currupt the scenery. i'm guessing when i added the aerocrate scenery. so i'm going to do that, than i'll take each plane one at a time and see what happens. i wish the aerocrate stuff had better instructions. but oh well i'll get it.

if you have any other ideas Hagar pass them along. you can pm me too.

Are they using the folder name or the sim= name? The added issue is that it can create an unintended cross-reference if another folder should be added that happens to have the name of the "sim=" which will then direct to that folder rather than the one it sits in. Although missions are written differently in CFS2, it uses similar referencing in the .cfgs. For this reason I always try to keep the folder name the same as referenced in its aircraft.cfg

You could always alias Panel.cfg to a similar aircraft that does work for you. It will then use the 2D panel of that aircraft. The DVC gauges won't display unless you add the entries from the original Panel.cfg.

Quote:

The Aerocrate aircraft should be easy enough to install. The only thing to bear in mind is that the sound might be aliased to another Aerocrate aircraft. (This is easy enough to check by opening Sound.cfg in Notepad.) If you haven't got that aircraft installed other aircraft aliased to it won't be listed on the Free Flight selection menu.

Sorry, I'm out of suggestions. I haven't experienced this problem before.

You would have to ask TR about this. He's the mission expert.

The folder names of the Fox Four aircraft all have a unique KWCFS2 prefix. For example; KWCFS2_F86E. The Aircraft.cfg sim= entry points to the AIR & DP file in use in that folder, in this case sim=F-86E Sabre.

In one of P.J.s downloads (The Camel I think), which does have a 2-D panel, he placed a  note saying that this panel was meant for use in all his WWI planes.  Wink

Try these aircraft for WW1...

Stuart Green's excellent work.

http://homepages.domicilium.com/peveril/hangar/wwi.htm

The Cuckoo is the one I use on the Furious as it has folding wings so that you can taxi from the rear to the front flying off deck via the ramps on either side of the funnel.

The AIR file entry for the Fox Four Sabre doesn't match the MDL file name. (The only one I checked.) We never had a problem with it.

The gaming forums are full of people having trouble getting older stuff (eg CFS2) to run under Vista or Win 7.
I'm Win XP Home and have no trouble running older games and new ones.

I downloaded your Fox Four Sabre, with no other F-86E, and it loaded. I added another F-86E, strictly named so in its files, although the sound and panel files are different. When I restarted CFS2, the new F-86E was listed - and loaded - but your KWCFS2_F86E had disappeared (no changes were made to its files other than sim=F-86E).
Changing the F-86E's sim= to F-86E Sabre and reapplying that name to the KWCFS2_F86E's sim= somewhat reversed the action: the KWCFS2_F86E had returned but was listed as the F-86E in the roster.

I think you're missing the point H. This is the Aircraft.cfg entry for the Fox Four F-86E :-

[fltsim.0]
title=KW F-86E
sim=
F-86E Sabre

model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
checklists=
KB_checklists=F-86E SABRE_check

As I said earlier, the sim= entry points to the AIR file in use. The AIR file of the Fox Four F-86E is named
F-86E SABRE.air
. If you change the sim= entry without changing the file name of the corresponding AIR file the aircraft will not be listed on the selection menu. The title= entry defines how it will be listed on the Free Flight menu.

...

Note: Two other F-86E Sabres are included with the Fox Four campaigns, a South African Air Force variant & AI Only version. All have the same named AIR files, sim= & AIR file 101 entries. I repeat, this has never caused a conflict or other problems.

Good point. From the Readme the PJ Walker aircraft were modelled with FS Design Studio Pro (FSDS1) & animated with Aircraft Animator + SDLEdit. From a peek at the MDL file the Aerocrate aircraft were modelled with the later FSDS2 (or 3) which uses a different form of animation.

The different type of MDL file could possibly be the cause of your problem with the PJW aircraft. I've never heard of anyone having this problem before. I suggest you forget the PJW aircraft for now. There are alternatives for most types from other authors.

The textures of both appear to be in the same format. Extended 16-bit 565.

my old computer i could use every aircraft out there. olny some gave me trouble and it was normally only becuz it was missing something. but this computer hates everything. older planes dont work. newer ones need the panels modified. i hate this computer. so now what is this thing missing to stop having these issues.

oh anyone have a copy of FSDS.

i wounder if i'm missing some .dll files. it is this computer causing my troubles. i'm thinking graphics card. it keeps coming to that.

well ty guys. i'll keep plugging at it and try to find planes that work on this worthless thing.

I have FSDS2. Why do you ask?

That seems the most likely answer.

love to be able to look at the mdl files and know if i'm going to have an issue. would also like to make my own planes as well but i don't think i have that kind of time.

i have it downloaded but no serial to unlock it. so there it sits.

if you have a working copy of FSDS and want to share it PM me. it would remain for personal use.

maybe when i'm able to afford it, i'll buy it but for now i'll have to go the cheapest route possible.

FSDS cannot open MDL files. You could use Notepad to check them out. It's mostly gobbledegook so you have to know what to look for. Not sure it would be any use explaining it as we don't know what's causing your problem.
