Quick question:
While I was doing the tail, I made it one segment too long and later deleted the segment. However after looking around at it in the 3D view, one of the faces is now invisible. (I don't believe the vertices are connected, making it appear open and invisible.) How do I fix this (or more correctly how do I reconnect these vertices to create a new face)?
I'm not the best designer. . . meh I think I'm pretty good for 14 years old. . .

first make sure that it isn't just a matter of a flipped polygon ....
Otherwise.. in polygon sub-object mode, under "edit geometry" click on "CREATE" ... the selected object's vertices will appear so click on the desired vertices in order (counterclockwise to create a face/polygon towards you), finishing with a click on the first point from which you started.

are you working on gmax?
you hit a working mode
Select the transparent part again and click alt+X
see
this is a handy too that allows you to work and see interior or back parts

To do a quick explanation of alrot's comment (thank's I'd forgotten that myself)
"alt-x" in gmax (and max) sets the selected object's transparency to 50% so you can effectively see through it. It's a toggle, so alt-x again brings back the object's default opacity

I haven't had much time for this lately, but I'll try to do some more over the weekend. The wings are still in a separate file due to me still not being done the attachment point for them. Here's what I have currently (still needs work):
