After several exporting errors...and still no luck in exporting the entire model, I had to resort to rebuilding it again and even tho it looks ok-ish in a render...it is still not exporting..even without textures  Sad

Hi Alex...Alrot...I have not UV mapped the model yet...could it be a problem with the number of verts? Am on 51 000 at moment...

Looking good. Poly count seems a little high for just being at this stage.

How about a head on shot?  Smiley

Thank you Skoker for the pdf link...I am using FSX... but I am sure it will apply and give me more ammo to tackle this model/exporting thing! Wink  Thanks for your help

Alex...I will do as you suggest and post the results later today..again thanks for your help and interest..considering how busy you are with your own project...

I used this 3 view from the tech pdf and cross ref with the picture you suggested.. the photo you suggested is not realy accurate as it is shot from a low angle but good for ref ... but I think it is not far off from the 3view...not perfect but ok for a newbie  Smiley

Alrot...  Alex I have removed the materials as you suggested and only got the max colours...but the model still does not show..apart from two small items ...the door hinges Sad   ...I then tried removing the materials  and the uvw mapping...and set to gray....nothing...I get a warning that the scene contains both fsx and fs9 materials and the program asks if i want to export as fsx..I selected "yes"

I get a warning in the xtomdl that the model exceeds the buffer size....but no other warnings or errors... Cry
...Hjelp please

is that is so rounded ,and smooth that is scary about polygon counts, the warnings or errors. are normals ,I see them sometimes , but why is not showing in the game ,is worrying  Undecided

that's very normal too

keep dinging my friend , otherwise the other solution is for me to check your file ,because IT SHOULD BE AS YOU SEE IT IN FSX AS THE BOX  AS THE TROYAN HORSE AND MANY objects ,I mean there is no animation, maps , attachpoints no Nothing , I don't get it

cheers...
p.s  just a few more shots to show you where the polys are going...will delete the detail again... Smiley

I knew it since I saw this beautiful chopper the first time,"
it was too beautiful
"

http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1282928859

too many rounded shapes ,too shiny , Lots of vertex and wayyyy too many polygons!!

It doesn't even export in my pc ,every time I load max with this Helicopter my machine tries to hang.

First its exacly what it says Too many vertex for FSX

http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/elhelicop1.jpg

I almost get blind by selecting this view mode the screen turns almost white  Shocked
...

You're going to have to remake this chopper  Undecided there are too many unnecessary parts ,for example the windows ,By lofting you can get almost the same shape

I'll give you and example
you helicopter has

154.949 polygons and 101.000 verts <---without the blades

and airplane like the one Im making right now which the exterior its complete

34.079 polygons and less than 18.000 verts

YOU HAVE 4 AIRPLANES IN A SINGLE MODEL!! Shocked

Unnecessary parts like this engines which is hidden and all those tubes or cylinders this parts has more vertex and polygon than my whole Citation x with its VC  Shocked

...

there are no blades in the file you send me ,but I can imagines is the same thing ,You need to remake many parts as you can my friend If this models could be export it It couldn't even run in FSX

Lofting lines ,draw rounded shape and then extrude to make blades or wings ,

I think I saw once a tool to kill polygons without changing the shape, I'll look for it and I'll get back ..

Hey Alex,  lol thanks for the feedback on the model...it is kinda what I expected Sad  I have to re learn ways to model with less polys..not sure how to do the lofting for the windows as you suggest but I will look into that...rebuild it again and then send you the file again if you don't mind...
Thanks for helping a newbie...Smiley  Your chopper looks great and I feel a bit dispondent at the moment..mostly since I don't know much about 3ds max..only had it for about a month..

anyway thanks again
would you mind if I keep bugging you with questions when I get stuck?
cheers

ps. I do have the poly cruncher plug-in installed and also have 3ds max 2011 with pro optimiser...and I did remove about 50% of the polys before I'd send you the file!!!! It had over 280 000!!

that is why I don't have win7 or vista ,I use xp ,BUT I'm aware that everything runs fast in W7

I forgot to tell you the Blackhawk is one from many many proyect from a dude who also start a design and never could export a model, neither in makemdl9 ...does that seems familiar?  Grin

I do have maybe a dozens (Maybe more) of abandon models from guys who can't at the end do anything else

I being analyzing your model and its 100% savable , Just work on those glasses and wipe out those little tubes I told you above , and try to remake the parts that are full of polys
BTW you have to set your model in meters the Chop is made in feets

     http://www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/wklj7756jmc54.JPG

these parts can stay like this

Lol yes I removed all the materials and Uvw maps as Alrot suggested and used poly reducer..and max randomly coloured it pink and purple...and I left it like that thinking it prob won't work ...but by luck it showed up! May name it the pink panther Smiley

Have started to rebuild the parts that Alrot suggested to reduce polys and fix some sloppy work like the windows..
but at least it is still alive!

That's a rookie mistake...

Here's the simple way to get it right the first time...

If you are in the Left Viewport, you should be looking at the left (port) side of the model!  Cool
