Using my FSRepaint V2, I tried a repaint of a Carenado plane.  Using only .bmp textures and 'saving' as I went, finally finished - saved, closed and exited.  Opened in FSX it looked like this  www.simviation.com/yabbuploads/odt183.jpg  not as intended.  Now in the FSRepaint files, both original and variation are a kaleidoscope of cross-hatched colors.  I'm suspecting a screw-up here.  Obviously the Carenado textures are more sophisticated so
what should I do?  The white parts, ventral fin and strut steps weren't painted.

The Carenado base textures are saved as DTX3 BMP's, what program are you using to
     1. paint
     2. convert the textures
     3. what format are you saving as?

FS repaint is good for seeing what you have painted without having to load your FS everytime as long as the textures are BMP's, FS repaint won't show DDS format.

I use  Paintshop Pro or CS Photoshop to do the paints and convert the textures with Imagetool (which is a part of the FS SDK and a lot easier to use, in fsx the textures have to be flipped vertically and this program does it automatically).

What's your alpha channel colour? It happens to me when I forget to paint it.

The questions you and Frequent Flyer ask are telling me I haven't read enough of the book.  Operating under the assumption that as long as I stuck to .bmp textures, all would be well has resulted in only two simple repaints.  From what I've read, I realize that it's a much more complex area which I've just been ignoring, hoping it would go away  Smiley.  Is there a "Repainting for Dummies" or something similar available?

Head over to here, there's a few tutorials.

But like your finding, it's a lot of trial and error, the easiest way I found it was to use a dedicated paint kit to practice with, find out how it's constructed layer wise, I've been uploading stuff now for nigh on 3 years and i'm still learning and asking.
