dumb question...

is it possible to overclock ANY CPU??  I had thought about it at one point in time, but 1) have no clue how to do it, so i never tried it cause i dont want to mess up something. 2) have no clue if it can even be done on my system.

From my understanding and I am going to use AMD cpus, any cpu can be OCed, it is just of matter of how hard it is to OC. AMD makes Black Edition(BE) Cpus which are easy to OC. When OCing you have to set voltage and other stuff. I do not do it because I do not know how and don't wanna damage anything.

Being that it's a Dell you most likely will be unable to overclock it. They have that locked-out.
If you were to purchase and install your own OS then you'd be able to o'c.

I have never attempted to over-clock the Processors on any of my computer builds over the years, with the risk of destroying them.
If I considered the Processor speed felt too slow, I just purchased and fitted a faster Processor, and left it running as standard for maximum reliability over its life.
Like anything else, once one has got used to the slight speed increase of over-clocking, any improvement will soon be forgotten and unnoticeable!

The same principle applies to Graphics cards, I just purchase a later, improved  Model, and leave it as standard!

Ah, Old School - I like it!

But there's something wrong here?

If you are driving those monsters in your signature, then you have a need for speed I'm sure...

Then, how can you not get hooked on overclocking and turning up every thing possible?

I'm driving my way too big motorbike around in Bangkok on the "High Speed Tollways" and it's GREAT!

Same with my PC, everything maxed, and I hope it will burn out soon, so I can tell wifey that we need a new PC with min. an i7 980.

Tee-Hee.... Grin...!

Nah....If my Ancient Computer runs my Flight Sims to my satisfaction, I leave well alone, and spend my money on other toys...
At the mo', my old AMD Socket A, 2600 (2.1GHz) Thoroughbred Processor + Gigabyte AGP MoBo with a nVidia AGP 7800 GS 256 Card runs FS 2004...and FSX to my supreme satisfaction, without over-clocking....and will probably last forever!.... Kiss.... Grin...!

Paul....with an aversion to Over-clocking...and racing Motorcycles....they both result in premature Death!.... Wink.... Grin....!

Being a laptop, I would advise that you not overclock your CPU as laptop cooling units can barely keep up with a stock clocked CPU. That would be if you could. Most OEM desktops/laptops do not have the ability to overclock in the BIOS.
And with overclocking I go by one key rule: If you can't pay (to replace it), you can't play.  Cheesy
