It's a nice idea, this is idea is used a lot on developer websites, they run serval competions and alikes in which there members can compete. Although im not sure how to implement such a system nor do i know if the moderators have time to run this next to the screenshot of the month competion.

Something else I've seen similar is a recommended download etc.  I thought there used to be something like that on here, but I don't see it anymore.  But some other websites put a little icon next to the download showing that its highly rated or reviewed.

Great idea. We need a handful of people to staff the review and testing section though.

It's a great idea.

There are some considerations.

Commitment - there is nothing worse than something that gets going then 3 or 9 months later it stops .....

Remember the forums are only a small part of site users so it would be forum member choices -

We had a 'Featured downloads' forum - waited for contributions & it died a death because virtually no-one contributed.

Anyone ready to run this would have to come up with a specific idea rather than a notion. That way we could take this further Wink

Think Global. It's the world we live in.

Sorry to say this, but as someone who made quite a few recommendations (all for Alrot's planes) these days, I remember that all existing threads didn't make it in the new forum and where gone one day.

And we had some different opinions how the reviews should look like.
Remember the "What is a featured download?"-thread  Wink

I think it's still a great idea but needs some rules / someone who gives it the right direction and I don't think everybody should be able to write reviews / name winners.

Maybe 10 finalists half a year nominated in 2 categories by a jury? (best Freeware addon Q1/2010 and best payware product in Q1/2010 for example?) And then a poll and declare the winners?

Just saw this old thread.....,

Cheers,
Fabian
