Spell and Grammar Checkers (Read 1425 times)

Good morning all... Smiley

As I mentioned in my post "FS2004 or FSX" in the Flight Simulator X Forum I would pose this question.

I am sure it has been asked or dealt with long before I came along but my curiosity and the devil are making me ask this question again.   Grin LOL (and my old grey matter only stores information so long then I think it kicks it out)  Smiley

On this very page we type on, we have all the smileys and the little squares with all the neat things we can do like bold, center, left margin, highlight etc. so why can a spell and grammar checker not be installed there?

It looks as if there is lots of room for one.

The program "WordWeb" is free, it is one I use frequently amongst others, could that not be used with permission or a similiar program?  Microsoft Office Word has another spell and grammar checker which is very useful.

Simviation is such a wonderful site full of ideas, information, pictures and competition with members who enjoy giving that little extra to help out so why can we not make the site a little more educational as well with a Spell and Grammar Checker?

This is just a thought, put to words and typed out, correctly I hope and respectfully submitted.   Wink   Smiley

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I can't see a problem with a spell checker, aside from the obvious trans-atlantic spelling differences... but a grammar checker? Surely that would be impossible?

Hi Doug. Firefox has its own spell checker. If you prefer Internet Explorer the Google Toolbar also incorporates one. These can be useful but are not infallible as miltestpilot's little poem demonstrates. I hope he won't mind me re-posting it here. The point being that although it's a complete load of gibberish there are no typos or spelling errors so a spell checker would be useless. Wink

Owed to the Spell Checker

I have a spelling checker--
It came with my PC.
It plane lee marks four my revue
Miss steaks aye can knot sea.

Eye ran this poem threw it,
Your sure reel glad two no
It's vary polished in it's weigh,
My checker tolled me sew.

A checker is a bless sing,
It freeze yew lodes of thyme.
It helps me right awl stiles two reed,
And aides me when aye rime.

To rite with care is quit a feet
Of witch won should be proud.
And wee mussed dew the best wee can,
Sew flaws are knot aloud.

And now bee cause my spelling
Is checked with such grate flare,
Their are know faults with in my cite,
Of none eye am a wear.

Each frays come posed up on my screen
Eye trussed to bee a joule
The checker poured o'er every word
To cheque sum spelling rule.

That's why aye brake in two averse
By righting wants too please.
Sow now ewe sea why aye dew prays
Such soft wear for pea seas!

In addition to above comments ... There is a new version of this forum (Yabb) coming out soon - & generally each new version does seem better than before (Unlike some software) ...

There may well be a spell checker incorporated .....

I did my best previously by putting in a link to dictionary.com in the top  menu - I use that if in ..  dought ...  Grin Wink

Microsoft Word has a grammar checker. It tries to be clever from time to time, but it is usable, but that would mean "cut and paste" each time you want to post.

If you use firefox you can install dictionaries for the built-in (I believe) spell-checker: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3
