~S~ Gentlemen,

Is there anyone with CFS1 and Vista out there?  I have a buddy who can't get his joystick to work no matter what.  The game runs, but can the Joystick be made to work?   Is there anyone flying CFS1 on vista and NOT using the keyboard?  Please help.  This info will be good for all of us, since we will all be stuck with Vista within a few years......Just like we were stuck with XP after getting comfortable with 98se...lol...

You can also E-Mail me direct with any answer at gcaprio358@juno.com   or gcaprio358@hotmail.com     and please remember the Allied Supply Depot for all your CFS1 needs.    www.alliedsupplydepot.com ;   Oh, Simviation is good too.    Smiley

Cheers,

Hogan

Colonel Hogan, I'am sorry that I cannot help you. I do ot have Vista as my Window so I cannot help you!

I do have a question for you. Are you going to have the Japanese sound pack back available again in the near future?

Dear James,

You should have sent me an E-mail.  I did not know the link was inactive.   If you have the file please send it to me.  If not I will be searching my archives for this file.  I can't seem to handily locate it....got to go through the discs.  thanks.

My dear Colonel, greetings.

I have exactly the same problem.
I refuse to buy another joystick!
Nothing beats my trusty old FFB2;
And yet one brilliant M$ product is rendered useless by another which appears to be next to useless.
Only solution I can think of (which I'm going to try as well, but even this seems to be harder work in Vista), is to set up a dual-boot with XP on another partition and run CFS1 and j/s software from this.

If you do do this, XP will over-write some operating files and you'll need to allow Vista to repair them after.

Good luck!

A friend told me about this.

The following is a brief transcript from some posts.

I can't vouch for it as I don't have Vista.

S~ xxxxx,

Copy your XP CFS combatfs.cfg file and send it to your Vista
computer.

Replace the combatfs.cfg file in VISTA with the one from XP.

Do not pay any attention to messages about your joystick
changing.

If it stops working when you enter a game, click on
ALT/Options/Settings/Customize Controls/highlight where your
joystick should be, (it may be a X/Y/X or anything else, just
highlight it.)

Then go to assignments and open it. Click OK/OK and everything
should be OK.

At last I can now say I have a MS Force Feedback 2 USB working in
Combat Flight Simulator 1, while using Vista as an operating
system .

This might not be the best way of doing it but this has worked for
me, so please read on and try it.

1st do a clean install of your CFS 1 game on your new Vista
computer.

Do not add the force-feed-back software.

2nd: Explore and find your CFS combatfs.cfg file . Now copy this
file from old XP computer .

3rd: Remove the CFS combatfs.cfg file from your Vista computer.

4th: Now add the file what you have copied from your XP
computer to your Vista computer.

5th: Right click your CFS icon on your Vista desktop and go to
properties and look at compatibility.  Please make sure the game
is set for running in windows XP Service pack 2 .

6th: Go into game and do not pay any attention to messages about
your joystick changing.

If it stops working when you enter a game, click on
ALT/Options/Settings/Customize Controls/highlight where your
joystick should be, (it may be a X/Y/X or anything else, just
highlight it.)

Then go to assignments and open it. Click OK/OK and everything
should be OK.

7th: Do a restart of your new computer then try it. This worked for
me .

I would like to add these results are not all my own but they are
from a friend of mine.

Well, the solution has been posted on the MS Windows Vista site.

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.mspx?&guid...

So I guess it works.

A shame its only for the SW FFB2 stick.

I'm sure lots of folks would like to have the original SW FFB Pro stick work on XP also.

Me.

Gotta tell my brother who has a Vista machine
