AngryI have a real problem with one of the rules for the screenshot contest. This is a quote from the rules:

3. All images Must BE 800 WIDE and NOT SMALLER THAN 600 HIGH!!
Since many machines run at higher resolutions, the 600 high rule has been eliminated! However, Your image may not be smaller than 800 X 600!
Example: A machine running at 1280X1024 will give you an image of 800X640 when reduced which is perfectly acceptable!
No cropping, editing or adjusting your shot!! Any images over 100 kb in weight, and being smaller than 800 wide and 600 high will not be VALID!  This rule is now being enforced since This is a Screenshot Contest and we "want to see the RAW shot!" All entries must be uploaded to SimV.

Ok, my problem is this. If my computer is running at 1680 X 1050 and I try to compose a screenshot of 800 X 600 it comes out deformed. Yet when I compose it at 800 X 500 it looks perfect. The rules state the the 600 high rule has been eliminated. But this is only for a shot that is above the 600 high rule.......WHATS THE DIFFERENCE??? You allow it one way but not the other??
Thats an oxy-moron. I contacted one of the moderators with this problem and they said that it shouldn't be a problem so I submitted the shot. Then I have it pulled because it's below the 600 high rule by someone else. I explained the situation to this moderator and was told in not so many words as to stop my crying and submit a post here. WHAT NOW ENO!?

He has a point though. If the rules say that the 600 high rule has been removed how can you have a minimum size of 800X600.

Have a min/max width of 800 pixles and let it be as high as the screen requires (800X640 for LCD screens and 800X500 for widescreens.)

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem. I just think that its really messed up that you can be larger then 600 high but not smaller. If your going to have a rule like that then make it fair all the way around.

I can't see what the problem is -- simply take the shot & resize it in ACDSee, Irfanview or some other image management software.

It seems you want to produce wide screen shots?

It obviously works -  You can do whatever you want with any screen size.

I tend to agree about the height - I don't think height matters.

dont want to Pete. But end up doing so.
If you try to resize the shots to the competition rules they squash the image width wise or stretch it height wise.

Like I said - don't worry about height - the height thing is under revue & likely to change.

planephysician,
I have sent you a PM.

We will be revamping the rules as FSX will now be allowed and also we are finding that there seems to be an issue with resolution and resizing.

Patience everybody!  Grin
