I don´t know if this has allready been posted.
I came across this post from a German MS employee yesterday

http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?t=43198

This post is from 09.09.2005. So things might have changed meanwhile. He also writes that all the listed features are to date (09.09.2005) not yet 100% confirmed.

Quote:

7. Verstärkte Einbindung von photorealistischen Texturen für Landschaften, möglichweise auf Basis der MS TerraServer Technologie. Hier weiß ich auch noch nichts genaues.

Abwarten und Tee trinken.....

Viele Grüße

I will translate the most important parts.

Weather interaction with the scenario (Cloud Shadows !!!,
Runway Conditions, Sight). Better AI Traffic.. real instead of fictional airlines with realworld flightplans.
More photorealistic textures.. maybe based on
MS TerraServer Technology (Think this is something like google earth).

Interresting....

I thought about this quite a while before posting. There are some things that make believe that it´s not a fake.
(of course I cannot grant it´s authenticity)

According to his signature he´s a consultant not a developer.
But those usually have access to alpha/beta programs
and feature lists of new software if they work in that specific field. If you google for his name in conjunction with Microsoft and/or flightsim
you find dozens of flightsim forums where this guy is posting with his realname. You will also find his offical
website.
This specific post I quoted is from Sept. 2005 while
FSX was announced in January 2006. It contains
infos and features that turned out to be true... Like FSX
not FS2006.. Runway conditions(screenshots).
However... a feature list from an alpha version can differ
from the final product !!

tried to translate using www.freetranslation.com

Do therefore, we want to put yet once a couple of facts on the table: 1. it NOT is planned to adjust the FS row - why also!?  For years the FS d e r bestseller has been and in speech moon, we have sit a team of more than 130 people, that are responsible only for the Flusi.  2. The new FS FS2006 of hot will not separate FS10 bzw FSX.  3. Until Now we are gives become yet in the ALPHA stage, for the (non public) concrete it yet no appointment and the Raid entries in Bugcheck daily more.  Sign 4. of the FSX will not come separate definitive this year not until the next year.  It will be awaited the Release by windows Vista around the compatibility with the new OS and DX10 to gewähleisten.  Summer ago 2006 is NOT to be reckoned therefore with a Release.  5. The Featurelist reads itself very interesting, it should join many new buildings in the larger cities, should interact the weather with the scenery (clouds shadow, Runway Conditions, visibility, etc.)  All yet alpha stage but is and therefore NOT quick.  6. The ENDS Traffic further is supposed to be improved, should be it instead of the invented now real airline after real schedules underway.  7th reinforced linking of photo realistic textures for landscapes, possible manner on basis of the MS TerraServer technology.  Here I know also yet
nothing exact.  Await and tea trinken....

not great, but you can see some important points

In the past Ive learned a  thing or two about the pending release of software
  • the pre-release speculation often makes the expectaions of the software very high and when it gets released everybody is disappointed when the software doesnt live up to the speculation
  • People who know wont say and people who say dont know

Microsoft launched Live Local with bird's eye view a few months back. Theyve only mapped out a few cities and its suburbs, but they could have used info from that to map the higher res areas? Check it out-> google live local, i think its the first one.
