I just built my 2d system last month and I am saddened to find that it is just slightly faster than the first one I built 3 years ago (P4 3.2E vs Athlon 1.2T-Bird).
I use this system primarily for video rendering and downloading, uh- movies...  All I have done to the system is plug and play. Any help that anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

WinXP Pro SP2
ASUS P4C800E Deluxe
P4 3.2 Prescott w/ Zalman 7000A-Cu
Micron 1GB PC3200 (x1)
Dell 18" LCD
Riva TNT2 64MB VidCard (very embarrassing)
Maxtor 40GB PATA (system)
Seagate 200GB SATA (storage)
Maxtor 140GB PATA (storage)
NEC 3500A DVD+/- R (16x)
Sony DVD/CD-R (16/52X)
Lite-On CD-R (32x)

What do you mean by that - presumeably you've installed the drivers for the Mobo/chipset. If not that may be half of the battle.

Thats whats in my simming PC (This one) and it is cr@p, but it does work. Have you got the newest (July 04) drivers for it?

If not, http://www.nvidia.com/object/win9x_61.76.

DX9.0C? Give it a go.

You've got a really bad bottleneck. At the moment you've got your big guns way behind the frontline being transported to the frontier by a mouse.

Hang on - just seen its your 2d system! May I ask the specs of your 3d machine Shocked

Thanks for pointing that out  Grin

I go back to the bottleneck: However fast the cpu you put behind that TNT2 your going to get no improvement in graphics quality or speed. I recomend getting one of the newer cards - not too often you can say its a waste of money not to!
