I was messing around with my Windows Virtual Memory just now. Set it to between 512 and 1024 MB and reboot. Keep Min and max the same, Windows won't mess around resizing it. I gained around 7FPS in Fs2002 Pro.

I'm guessing your saying "Hey guys, with Win98 if you mess about with your swap file settings, you'll get some performance boost" well, thats true to an extent.

A better revelation for '98 users would be "Go buy XP , '98 is frankly dead!"

Try to install Doom3 with '98 and you'll see what I mean!

No amount of swap file tinkering will give you the average 30% performance advantage of XP over '98.

M$ have been bleating on about setting your swap file to 1024MB for years BTW.  Wink

Paul.

Try playing some classic games on XP. Smiley

The performance title goes to 98SE! Sure it plays newer games a little slower...but it has an infinite advantage on older titles.

Hmmm. Okay, but I have been told that on my PIII 500Mhz / 128Mb SDRAM that XP will take AGES to load up. Is that true? Since my last post I have increased it to 512Mb, and it seems slightly better.

Wink... Wink... Wink...!

99.9% of all the software I own and run regularly, was designed for DOS, Win'95 and Win '98, (and 3DFX Voodoo graphics cards!), and dates from before Mr. Gates invented Windows XP.... Smiley...!
...and Windows '98SE copes with them all admirably, so I'm a happy bunny... Grin...!
With a mountain of "old games" to play I can't imagine wanting to buy anything new at the moment, and designed specifically for Win XP!

Cheers all...!

Paul....off to have some fun with dusty copies of Gloom, Doom, Quake, Sim 'Copter, Mechcommander, Flight Unlimited II, etc... such nostalga!.....8)...!
...and fire up my emulators to play some old Spectrum games...We'll have none of this "new-fangled stuff"... Angry...!
LOL...LOL...LOL..!

P.S. Scania...you are on a loosing battle with me, Mate... Grin...LOL...!

A VERY SMALL selection of some of my PC games, dating back to the year dot, not to mention the mountain of Spectrum games, C.64 games, Amiga games, Megadrive games....not to mention all the hardware that goes with them... 8)...!
Very little room left in the house now... Roll Eyes...!

...

Grin... Grin... Grin...!
