Thinking of taking up Aircraft Repainting? Simviation now has a download section that is specifically dedicated to this hobby!
Here you will find all the FS2004 default aircraft, from the Cessna to the 747!
Rob Smith has generously made available repaint kits for all the FS2004 default aircrafts.
You are free to use these textures to create your own repaints but please give the author credit for his hard work. You are not allowed to use these textures for payware aircraft or add ons. The kit does not include any other files except the textures for each aircraft.
Also in this section are downloads that contain paint kits for many other different types of aircrafts!

From the beginner to the professional, this section is worth taking a look at! Let's see what type of repaint you can do!

There are a few tutorials on how to "Repaint" an aircraft available for you to use.
Try "Grump's Lair" hosted by Simviation at:
http://www.simviation.com/lair/index.htm

Or the link in "The Lair" to Garry Smith's tutorial at:
http://www.gjsmith.net/Tutorial/full_tutorial.htm

There is some real helpful information here on getting your painting career off the ground!
Good Luck and Happy Flying!!

Dave

Very interesting indeed. Do you know if the same kits can be used for FS2002 as well? Most airplanes do exist in FS2002 too and at least the Cessna 172 which I checked seems identical (at least the _t file).

It's not just a matter of putting one there.  First someone has to find one and let Pete (site owner) know that there is one in existance (and how to find it) and then he has to put it up.

It's not at all a simple process.

There are lots of free painting packages that come with cover cd's on computer mags from time, there is often one included with one magazine each month.
They are older versions but more tha adequate for starting out painting and may well be all you ever require.

It's not a bad program, it doesn't have as many features as Photoshop and PSP, but it'll get the job done Wink

Inorder to use these kits you will need a progam called DXTBMP to convert the textures and load them into your favorite graphics editor.

I'd recommend PhotoFiltre from http://www.photofiltre.com - for photo editing it's second to none (if none is Photoshop) and it's also very good for repainting due to the different fill mechanism (you'll see when you try) which speeds things up, and the filters/colour options.

It also smooths images when you resize and antialises (and bevels and shadows if you so wish) text, which makes it good for screenies too.

Pixia 3.1 is an excellent aircraft repainting tool and it's free
bill
P.S. add a Hybrid Layer to see thru your paint colors to the underlying paintkit

Hi guys, just a quick heads up, I've started putting my own 'home-made' repaint kits onto my website.

Theres are layered kits compatible with PSP or Photoshop. Bitmaps available on request for people without PSP or P.S. I'll be adding to the list over time, but for now theres 20 or so available.

http://www.repaints.here.ws
on the Downloads page.

If theres an aircraft you want a kit making for thats not there, or there is no official kit available, then feel free to ask, and i'll see what I can make.

Looie, this was 3 months ago - did you ever get this sorted out?  I've been playing around with repaints and DXTBmp.exe lately, it sounds like you exported the alpha channel (light/dark) instead of the textures!
