I would like to convert this joystick into rudderpedals, maybe make a swichboard, and a 2 engine throttle......

I am looking for a crashcorse on how to do that....

Ok, It is a gameport joystick, has 3 axis (throttle, y axis, and X axis) I am planning on simply making the X axis my rudder, Y axis 1 engine controller, and the throttle axis for my other throttle..... It has 2 four way hat switches, and 6 other buttons . . . . Hmmmm.... I hope that this is enough info.....

I have a Logitec wingmen FFB, and it has another 3rd throttle, that I am planning to disable

Oh, I am not wanting to spend maybe more then $20 on it Smiley

Thankyou all very much

edit-What does it take to get a reply!!! Angry

Michael,

Sorry you haven't gotten much in the way of a reply on this question.  With the various winter holidays just over...... I think a lot of people have been tied up with other matters a lot.

There are a couple of existing threads on making rudder pedals that are currently on page 2 and page 3 of this forum.  Have you looked at them yet?  The idea posted by Will (Smoke2much) should serve to get you going in a basic direction.  Therea are also some existing threads on throttle quadrants.

The basic problem is about building durable mechanical linkages and then hooking them to the existing potentiometers from the old joystick.

Look at real rudder pedals and also the commercial sim padals available and see how they work....and then think of what you can construct out of wood or metal with the skills and tools you have available.  Decide how much visual realism you desire........ do they just have to function realistically.... or do they also have to look like the real thing?

Some of this cockpit building stuff is about ingenuity....... and just figuring stuff out.  Hopefully, the "figuring out" aspect is part of the fun of it.  It's a challenge.  There are often many solutions to the same problem.

best,

.....................john

ok, I guess I didn't post much information Roll Eyes ah, ok... I don't mind how they look, just want them to funtion properly..... Same with the throttles... Maybe a bit nicer, because they would stay on top of my computer desk, and I would want it to look sorta good Roll Eyes After I am done making it, I will probably take a black spray paint can, and paint them all up, so, that is out of the way Smiley

BTW, the logitec will be my joystick for ailorons & elevators, and I am also thinking a leaver for landing gear (maybe can make that with a button somehow) and also a flap leaver (2 buttons required for that) and also a speedbrake/spoiler lever (with yet another button) and toebrakes (with the remaining 2 buttons)

So, I will check out those posts about the rudder pedals, Thanks alot!

PS- I havnt lookid into it, but is it straight forward to assign fs2004 to multpule joysticks (I don't mind to edit the FS9.cfg file if I have to)

I will look into that later on tonight when I have 5 mins tonght Wink

Michael,

The "axis assignments" in FS2004 are VERY straightforward to adjust.  Just go to the "Settings" section and look at the joystick assignments.  If you have more then one controller....... there will be a pull down list that lets you select and assign each controller's functions.

The construction stuff is a "figure it out based on what you have and what you're willing to spend" type thing.  I think you'll find enough resources in the various threads already posted here in this forum to at least get you thinking in the right direction.

best,

...............john

PS: Toebrakes can be assigned to two axis controllers...... (potentiometers) also.  They function as separate left and right brakes in the sim (helps with turning a big jet  Wink ).  On the CH Products pedals the toe brakes are not just an "on / off" situation..... they depress like a real brake on a car.  The harder you push them.... the more "braking power" they supply.  Not sure how an "on/off" button would work for that functuon....... full brakes / no brakes.
