It is the GFX card that is holding you back, is it an se model?  The processor is more than double the recommended requirements so it can not be that plus i have no probs.

I am not sure, but the graphics card is definetly the weakest link out of the list you have put in the first post.

Perhaps someone could help us out? I would also like to know.

the 9200 is not the best card, but its also not at the bottom of the list. most people with  9800Pros lag when there are clouds so i wouldnt be to worried if its just a bit  Wink

Still have a nice PC but I just switched to a hella nice mac

Have you seen the guy with a geforce 2 mx and he hardly lags at all and get 20fps most of the time, i guess some comps are more compatible than others.

I have this happening with CnC Generals aswell though.  People with really ace cards struggling to run the game and having lots of problems and then people with old cards that only just meet the requirements running the game a dream. Shocked

I am running an AMD1700 @2gz, with a radeon 9200 and like everone else trying to get better frame rates, didn't run to badly on default settings but chugged a bit with clouds. Thought I'd need to get a new graphics card, however put another half gig of memory in (pc2700) making 1 gb in total and WOW, what a difference, will now run at 30 to 40 fps with Everything at max (including 8 lights, max mipmap, massive global textures, 100% traffic and so on) I reckon it tripled my fps.
Totally transformed the game!
So imho the best thing one can do before anything else is increase the ram to at least 1gb.

Paul

Ps, tried it with everythig on default and got frame rates to go above 100fps at times,
Pps, does anyone know if there is a faster pci card than the fx5200 out there?

I take it you have an AMD2000XP processor. What FSB is this? is it 266 or 333?  I notice your running PC3200 which is 400mhz FSB.  Its best if you run RAM with the same FSB as the Processor has.  At the moment your PC3200 is being wasted as it will be de-clocked to your Processors FSB.  I read a few articles explaining it, but general conclusion was its best to run matched FSB's.

I think the clouds hit most peoples FPS a bit.  My old GF4 ti4600 128ddr hates em but I'm replacing it very soon with a nice new card  Grin and hopefully this wil rock then!!

The 2000+ is 266, so setting your RAM to 266 may help you.

Also i have no problems with the clouds unless i set them to max, if i set them to just below max they don't hurt my fps at all, i can fly through them and my fps does not drop.  I am sure the clouds are mainly GFX card related.

HEHEHE, yeah but look at your G-card!! its a newish 9600XT that will support DX9 much better than mine.  My GF4 cant even run all the tests in 3dMarks2003 benchmark prog lol.

It does still hold its own but doesnt like the cloud levels too high, i.e. under half settings, this allows me to have the other details higher.
